What patients are saying...

I had an awful experience with their front desk person Mitchell. When I checked in with Mitchell on April 16th, I was asked my DOB and name, which is Arab. When the Medical Assistant came to take me back, she stopped by Mitchell's desk to ask the pronunciation of my Arab name, and I could hear Mitchell laughing at me in a snide way. This day I had already been dealing with family related domestic violence, and was on edge. I held in my tears until the MA took me into the exam room, and then I had a meltdown. She had to get someone else to take my vitals because I was crying, shaking, and hyperventilating. When Jason Taylor entered the room, he said that he could not help me if I couldn't tell him what was wrong. I was non-verbal for a moment because I'd just been traumatized by staff. I did not say anything about the incident. When my follow up happened, I was trying to figure out a way not to be laughed at this time. I came up with the idea to just say my last name instead. When I went in, Mitchell and both Medical Assistants who helped me last time were all sitting at the front desk. I imagine they were disappointed when I said my last name instead. As the Medical Assistant passed Mitchell's desk, I heard him say, "Here we go again," or something to that effect. This was in reference to the meltdown that Mitchell triggered the last time. I was correct to go into this appointment with fear and anxiety. This time when I got to the exam room, I only let out a couple of tears. I lied to the medical assistant and said it was because of the blood pressure cuff. It was really because I had been bullied again, this time over my bad mental health. I didn't want to make a scene or make the MA think she was the one who upset me. The same day, I messaged Jason through the patient portal detailing exactly what happened both times. He did not reply until two or three days later, after I sent a message saying that I hope they don't just choose to ignore the situation and that I expect an apology from Mitchell. Jason said that he had simply been to busy to reply, and would bring it up with staff and Administration by the end of that week, and contact me to discuss the issue the next week. He never contacted me. It has been since May 7th that I notified Jason, it is now May 20 and I've heard nothing. I'm a Medicare patient and this doesn't surprise me one bit. It feels like they want to get rid of me without doing so explicitly, since that would be illegal. I've emailed the office manager and have yet to get a response. The worst part is that I've injured my back again and I've been stuck in bed, unable to walk. But I won't seek diagnosis or treatment because I'm too afraid to be discriminated against at my provider's office again. My insurance will be gone soon and I don't think I'll have the time to establish care anywhere else. Also I've been seeing Jason for years and I'm still no closer to figuring out what's wrong with me. He basically says I should do "lifestyle changes," AKA lose weight. I've seen a couple of other providers who were better able to point me in the right direction as far as my health goes. Unfortunately I was never able to follow up with them. I've had to advocate for testing, despite Jason Taylor being the one with the medical degree. I hope I can start fresh someday with another provider who cares and actually wants to help, and whose staff is professional and doesn't talk about patients where they can hear. Or talk about patients like they aren't there. This all could have been avoided if the MA would have just asked me how to pronounce my name. No disrespect or bullying necessary. If you don't want to be faced with mean-girl behavior and bullying from Mitchell, and apathy from your provider, I suggest going elsewhere.
