Having a little in pain and with illness is no bueno! When his normal doctor had 'no available sick appointments' we were able to secure one of the first appointments at Urgent Care for Children. There was no wait, we were seen immediately, and back home and resting with a confirmed diagnosis and care plan within 30 minutes. Love!

Urgent care
We had a great visit today. The entire staff was pleasant, welcoming and helpful. My child and I were able to sit in the car until it was our time to be seen. A definite plus, considering it’s flu and cold season.

Don’t like you need to schedule liked when you could just walk in.  Don’t like have to use phone to check in when they already have your information.  However the staff is very friendly   The poor nurse practitioner was very over worked today I felt sorry for her. So many sick people.  All workers were very professional.   Excellent care.

Urgent care
I scheduled the appointment online and went straight to the appointment in Meridianville with excellent service. However, they had a small problem. After I was swabbed, the nurse came to let me know that they didn’t have the tools to test the sample, but we can send you on Shields Road and you can walk right in and get your sample again and steroid shot. This did not happen. The front desk young black lady was rude! She had no empathy! She didn’t listen to me nor the sweet registrar lady from Meridianville. She said there are all these people in front of you so just sign in and have a seat. I told her that I already had an appointment at Meridianville and the situation. She said, yea, they called but we got all these people in front of you. I was not happy on top of feeling horrible. She was an awful customer service employee at the Shields Road AFC!! Train your employees!!

Urgent care
Was bitten by a cat on hand and had bad swelling and pain, the wonderful doctor(I'm so sorry I can't remember her name!!!! She was on duty 12/3 at 2pm!!!!) had really kind and friendly bedside manner, didn't make me feel ashamed for getting bit. She showed me what cleaning solution I should use, quickly diagnosed me with cellulitis, got me a tetanus shot stat, prescribed everything I needed very quickly. The nurse who administered my shot was quick, kind, and nooooo pain!!!! Wonderful! I was so happy and comfortable ! The only complaint is I was able to hear everything going on right next to me, as I was placed in an open space with drapes/dividers(?) and I could hear every detail about the poor guy who had stitches in his face. I feel like that's a violation of privacy and HIPPA? Nonetheless, not much you can do about that, and I appreciated all the care I got!

Urgent Care FAQs

  • What is urgent care?

Urgent care is a healthcare service focused on providing immediate, non-life-threatening medical attention. Urgent care centers treat conditions such as sprains, cuts, burns, and common illnesses and offer a range of services, including diagnostic and preventive care like immunizations and physicals. With an estimated 15,000 clinics in the U.S., urgent care centers operate beyond traditional primary care office hours, offering a convenient and lower cost alternative to emergency rooms for urgent but minor health issues.

  • What is a walk-in clinic?

A walk-in clinic is a type of healthcare facility that provides medical care to patients without the need for an appointment. These clinics cover a range of services such as urgent care, occupational medicine, and primary care with walk-in availability. They cater to non-emergent health issues, offering a convenient option for accessible medical attention. Walk-in clinics vary from free services provided by government, charity, or foundation-operated facilities to private clinics with affordable rates, serving as a practical alternative for minor illnesses and injuries outside of traditional doctor's offices and emergency rooms.

  • Do urgent care centers in Athens take appointments?

Historically, urgent care centers were strictly an on-demand, walk-in healthcare service. More recently, as consumer behaviors and expectations have evolved, many urgent care clinics have begun offering book ahead visits, allowing consumers to select a same-day or next-day time that works best for their schedule. Use Solv to find a Athens urgent care center that offers advanced bookings (or appointments) and book online.

  • Are Athens urgent care centers open after hours?

Yes. Most primary care doctor offices are open during routine work hours, Monday thru Friday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Conversely, most of the urgent care centers in Athens are available after hours, on weekends, and many holidays. Typical urgent care hours are 8:00 am to 8:00 pm daily, although location-specific hours may vary.

  • How much will an urgent care visit in Athens cost?

The cost of a visit to an urgent care in Athens varies, with cash prices for the base visit generally ranging from $100 to $175. Additional treatments, such as lab tests, X-rays, or immunizations, can increase costs, typically between $50-150 each. If you're using insurance, expect a co-pay between $20 and $50, depending on your plan and whether the clinic is in-network. Prices differ based on location, so it's best to check directly with the urgent care center and your insurance provider for accurate cost estimates.
