I needed a rapid covid test to take a cruise. I had a 48 hour window to get it, but on day two I was leaving at 5:00 a.m. . It gave me one day to get it. I had two other appointments set up, received confirmations etc but when I went to the appointment I was told I didn't have one. After a very stressful morning I was referred here. I was in and out of there in no time with my test result in hand. Thank you so very much for the friendliness of your staff and being available to administer the test. I will be back again for my next pre trip covid test.

Everything was great. See my concern in the email below. As you can imagine, when you think their is a possibility that you might have COVID, your mind isn’t thinking as clearly. When I made the Rapid COVID Test online last night, we understood that there would be a cost for the test. I was not however, notified in the emails or texts that followed that I would be responsible for a $109 office visit. That was a complete shock. I filled out the paperwork ahead of time online and did not put any insurance information in. Perhaps there should be a prompt that if you do not have insurance, you will be charged $109 for an office visit. Please contact me. This appointment that I made was for my sister-in-law, Nora Romero, DOB: 2/16/***. Thank you, Jason Stickelman ***

First time at this facility - went in for COVID test. The experience was like no other medical facility. The staff were amazing - knowledgeable, super professional, very focused on patient care, the provider’s bedside manner was an A++. Super facility - clean, fresh, very comfortable. The medical team offered sound options for moving forward without pressure - this place thinks in broader terms than some other medical centers. I was their first Covid positive patient of the day and I left feeling confident I had all the information and options to move through my COVID journey. I would highly recommend ImmediateCare Arizona to anyone in need of medical support.

This was my first time visiting Alliance Urgent Care. I was able to make an appointment online at 745am for an appointment at 845am. The process of checking in was quick and the receptionist was friendly and helpful. Next, I was seen by the tech who was extremely thorough with his assessment and was also very friendly. Lastly, I saw the doctor who addressed my issue, pink eye, and even suggested I have a covid test. At the time, I had no idea this was a covid symptom, but I'm glad I had an informed doctor to make the suggestion. I was given a prescription for the pink eye and done with my entire appointment in less than 40 minutes. I would highly recommend Alliance to my friends and family.

Went in for rapid Covid test got tested really quick once I was told how to proceed after several calls to clinic before someone answered. Ended up getting a prescription for something other than Covid, was to be called into my pharmacy so I could pick it up right away, well it never was received by the pharmacy called multiple times again to the clinic to try to get someone to answer the phone and was told they would resend the prescription only to have it not sent, stopped by the clinic and it was closed! NOT COOL!!!!!! So no prescription til hopefully tomorrow????!!!!

After calling and waiting 23 minutes for testing site availability I was directed to the Tramonto facility. Upon arriving I over heard the receptionist telling a caller that there are no available appointments left for today. As when she professionally addressed me she noticed the was a cancellation and filled me into that spot. I’m not familiar with the covid testing processes but the facility didn’t appear to be busy in the least. No one in the waiting room and one person waiting in there vehicle. I think the staff was very professional and actually got me in, tested, and the results by the time my appointment time was due.

I made the appt, 25 miles from my house, specifically because I was told this location was doing the rapid Covid tests. Checked in and 30 minutes later heard one of the receptionists tell another patient that they were out of rapid tests. I was never told by staff by phone or even in person that they no longer had rapid tests. Had I been told, I could've saved the drive and my urgent care co-pay as I was simply needing the rapid test to get back to work......and also because I live with my 88 year old mother-in-law. Disappointing to have wasted 2.5 hours of my day for the standard test I could've done .5 miles from home. However, the medical staff was very friendly and helpful.

Unlike many Urgent Cares, the staff was...well....nice! The new front desk younger gal, Nikki, was so respectful and kind to not only us, but all of the patients that came in. If they didn’t have a Covid appointment, she handled it with great professionalism, AND helped them by giving specific information on places to try. The male Tech, Vince, actually said his name, what he did, and did a great job. The P.A., Nadine, popped her head in to let me know about how long the test would take, which I thought was a good effort (she was busy!) We got our rapid Covid tests in 15 minutes! Well done Allegiant-Phoenix!

Quite a long wait time but do able. The MA or nurse who called for my info and came in for vitals was next to rude! I felt like I was putting her out by being there. She said "if you already have a positive Covid test, what are you doing here"? It was a positive home test and I needed an official lab test for an infusion referral. She was very snappy in her communication. But then the PA (Madison)came in and it was a whole different story. She was as sweet as can be. She was kind, understanding and was concerned for my needs. She listened to me and explained exactly what I needed to know and do. Thank you for people like Madison who can take a bad situation and make you feel better.

My niece and I came in because I needed a covid test. She came with me because her leg was fiery hot and red and the redness was almost to her knee. Dr John thought she had cellulitis and gave her antibiotics. Turned out she has necrotizing fasciitis and ended up in the hospitals and having the front of her leg from knee to ankle removed all the way to the bone. Thank God she saw Dr John because he told her if it got any worse to go to the hospital immediately. She might not have gone when she did if it wasn’t for him. I would recommend you all anytime. Thank you for your care. Ps. My covid test was negative!😃☺️

You never leave your car!............I went and had the rapid COVID test done. I called when I got there and spoke with a rep and she collected all my info over the phone. I did have to email a picture of my ID and Insurance Card from my phone. She had me checked in within a few minutes. I waited for about an hour (but I did not have an appointment and there was a number of people in front of me). When the nurse came to the car we did everything through my window. The nurse was nice and informative. The whole thing took about 5 mins. You can wait or they can call you with the results.

I had such a pleasant experience at this urgent care on Camelback road. I honestly hate going to any doctor or urgent care, but I needed a Covid test because I was having symptoms. Everyone from the front desk staff, medical assistants, and the PA were wonderful. I really wish I knew the PAs name because I’d name her on this review. Everyone was so nice, thorough, professional and helpful. It was easy to register and to check out. It was a great experience and I would definitely come back…Thank you everyone for continuing to serve on the front lines during Covid 19 and putting your own health on the line to help all of us who are sick and in need of care. I wish you the best during the holidays and pray for continued good health…

I usually go here and have excellent service from my provider. I felt that I was brushed off and all my concerns were not addressed and all of my symptoms were passed off as covid . I wasn't impressed and was left just scared . It's sad when you can't even go to a doctor and automatically if your sick it's covid. Little to say I'll wait for my covid test before I subject myself to a hospital full of covid people . A chest x-ray might have been a good idea if you thought the pain in my back was related to covid! This is a one time experience for me . Usually a very positive experience .

I came here for a covid test a couple months ago and was told to do a video with the doctor and wait in my car. I drove over at 8:40 when my appointment was at 9:00. I logged on 10 minutes earlier as it said and I was not seen till almost 10:00 no doctor picked up the video call. People were walking inside and there was no phone number to call. I could not walk in due to me having two little children in the car that I didn’t want to expose them to potential Covid patients. Very upset that a patient had to go ask my question for me because there was no one answering the phones.

I specifically went to a far location to get my kids tested for a drive though covid test as the location near me didn’t offer that. They made our appointments 30 mins apart and only had 3 appointment slots but the woman on the phone said we should all be able to get tested. When I got there I explained and they said only those with appointments could get tested so I had to give my appointment up for my son to get all three kids tested. They told me to come in the facility to get tested when I told them I wanted to stay in the car and do the drive up. I could have chose the location closest to me and not wasted my time driving if that was the case. Staff was friendly, but everything was screwed up other than that. I also had to wait 40 minutes in the car before they were ready for my appointment. No one was in the waiting room.

The woman answering the phone was professional friendly and kind. The problem occurred when the healthcare worker came out after my Covid test without a mascon. I mentioned it and she pulled her sweater over her nose instead of getting a mask, while also asking me to lower my mask for a visual inspection. During the length of the pandemic I have never had a healthcare worker approach me without a mask and I told her that this made me uncomfortable and then I left. I thought that was pretty unprofessional to not wear a mask given that I was there to get a Covid test .

I was told the wait would be 60-90 minutes and that 4 people were ahead of me. After waiting 70 minutes, I was told 3 people were ahead of me. After waiting 105 minutes I was told 4 people were ahead of me. When I asked how that was possible, the receptionist said things had not moved in the back for quite a while. I was finally called 2.5 hours after I had checked in. I understand having to wait, but it seems they were not going in order as I saw people come in way after me asking fir a COVID test and they were done before me.

I live across town, but ended up at Immediate Care after a long search for a rapid covid test. I am SO grateful that Trevor, and the rest of the staff at Immediate Care, were the people to help treat me. I was extremely sick when I arrived, and had results from my rapid test almost immediately. I was offered treatment and left feeling set up for success. Later that evening, I was having difficulty breathing and called Immediate Care for guidance. Trevor offered several options to help, and even stayed open so that my husband could pick up the medicine I needed. I really believe that without Immediate Care, I would have ended up in the hospital due to breathing complications. I highly recommend Immediate Care after this amazing experience! Worth the drive across town without a doubt!

Walk in rapid Covid testing. They were prompt. Professional. Thorough. Kind. I was disappointed in their infection control in the front waiting area. The person at the desk had their mask below their nose. Clipboards with several copies of forms to be filled out were on it and handed to me. I didn’t see any wiping off the clipboards or pens they handed out. The person behind the desk was touching multiple clipboards and Id’s and insurance cards from multiple people and not cleaning hands in between. I also went into two different rooms once I was called back. One to gather information such as health history and vital signs then another one to be assessed and swabbed for Covid. If I was positive, I would have been contaminating many areas. I was wearing a mask and I used hand sanitizer at every opportunity, but there is still better practice in infection control that should have been done to protect the workers and patients. I am a nurse so I do understand infection control. I do appreciate your business and your care that I was provided. I want you to remain in business and keep everyone as safe as possible.

I had an overall great experience. The 1 complaint I have is the answering service. It is not right that you have to sit on the phone for 18-25 minutes to make an appt only to be hung up on. Secondly, I took a Covid Test. I received a message 3 days later and was told to call a specific # which I did and again had to wait on the phone listening to a recording. I finally hung up and drove 35 minutes to the office I had the test at. I should have been given a direct # to the office at the time I checked out from the appt. This is poor customer/patient service. Thank you for your time and hopefully you can implement the suggestion offered. Also my husband drove to the office to get the appt for me since I couldn't do it by phone and did not have access to a computer.

Pima COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Pima?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Pima?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Pima-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Pima?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Pima including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Pima?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Pima-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Pima?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Pima are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Pima?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Pima?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
