Accidentally dropped a grill cleaner with a knife like edge. It hit the top of my left foot and made a very deep cut. The blood was gushing out and no amount of pressure could stop it. I went Priority Urgent Care East Haven and was immediately taken care of. They cleaned the wound and gave me stitches. They were very kind and incredibly helpful. They also told me how to care for it. I need to return in 10 days to have the stitches removed and I am looking forward to seeing the staff again.

I booked my appmt. Online for 5 pm.  Checked in early no problem. People kept walking & the little assistant kept bringing more people in before me. Finally the APRN noticed this happening & had to straighten problem out & I got in at 7 pm & spent the next 45 minutes being talked to & examine & going over my problem.  The receptionist was not aware of appmts taking precedence to “walk-ins”  well handled!!!

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

The care my wife and I received at this facility was nothing but extraordinary. We are seniors and felt the warmth, compassion and professionalism of the front desk and the techs that assisted us in our Covid tests. The cleanliness of the facility was another thing we noted. We had very little wait time once we filled out the brief paperwork. We want to thank the following personnel who assisted us. TACARRA, AJA, and EMILY You have our highest recommendation!

I am so very impressed with this office. The entire staff were so very friendly. The man who gave me my Covid test is a real gem to your office, he deserves a raise for sure! Keribeth was also just as amazing. Thank you! I will be driving from North Haven to this office when it is needed!

- Verified patient on 5/18

Jamie Barbieri was wonderful!! She was pleasant, friendly, professional and attentive. The COVID testing was completed with care. The PA shared her knowledge with us and asked if I had questions. The overall experience was outstanding!!!! Carol Burns

- Verified patient on 11/25

Staff members were kind. Quality of care recieved was efficient and adequate. Wait time was absurd. I checked in 20 minutes before my son's scheduled appointment and wasn't seen until 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. That was OVER AN HOUR LONG WAIT. If we were walk ins, that would make sense to me, but this was a scheduled appointment. Waiting for over an hour with a five year old and an infant is quite difficult, and this is not the first time I've had a long wait with Physician One. I'll be trying out different locations for covid tests in the future.

- Verified patient on 9/20

I booked a rapid test for Covid exposure. My appointment was scheduled for 12:55pm. I wasn’t seen until 1:40pm. Then was told they don’t do rapid tests for exposure only if you have symptoms. This is something that needs to be published before making the appointment. Joy and Jess did a great job explaining Covid testing to me.

- Verified patient on 12/4

Very convenient for me the office is right down the street. Wait time is long I waited 3 hrs to have the covid test done I don't know if they were short handed, extra busy or need additional help. I will go back

- Verified patient on 9/18

I went for a covid test and they were amazing. They not only did a rapid test but they also did a PCR test to be sure. Because I had cold symptoms they had a PA evaluate me. I felt respected, cared for and my time was honored. I was in and out in 30 minutes. I highly recommend this facility!

- Verified patient on 1/5

This was my second visit this week. Originally, I was there for a Covid test on Tuesday due to exposure at work. This time I was there for another Covid test but I had developed symptoms. While I waited a long time, it was due to the fact that they were helping so many patients & then cleaning the rooms in between. I did not see one staff member sitting idle the entire time I was there. I received exceptional care first from the nurse & then the practitioner. They were kind, caring & thorough. Sometimes when you go to a facility & there are so many people waiting staff will have a tendency to rush you out. I did not feel that way at all. If I could I would make the practioner I saw my primary care doctor because I have not been allowed to set foot in my doctor’s office since early February ***.

- Verified patient on 3/14

This was my first experience at urgent care to get travel Covid testing completed. The staff was friendly and personable and professional. Covid precautions were in place and the wait time was minimal with a scheduled appointment I would recommend them and would return to the center.

- Verified patient on 9/22

I didn’t have to wait long I’ve been here before so they had my information already and was taken in and my vitals were taken and then someone came in to look at my problem and explained my options and I also had a rapid result Covid test which went well and thenI was done with a very good experience

- Verified patient on 1/18

I was able to easily book an appointment online 15 hours in advance for a rapid covid test. A staff member called to confirm with a positive attitude. I had to wait comfortably in my car for only 20 minutes after I checked-in. The nurse was more than gentle when swabbing my nose. I experience high anxiety during covid swabbing along with pain as they shove the swab as far as they can in my nose. But with Physician One Urgent Care, I experienced no pain and anxiety with respect for my nose. I wish I could always use PhysicianOne every time when I need a covid test but I am only visiting Connecticut. This was the quickest in-and-out covid test. This place deserves more than five stars! Thank you for such a quick and wonderful experience!

- Verified patient on 1/3

Almost two hour wait but that’s ok I walked in for Covid test. The two front desk ladies were super duper amazing and had a smile that was contagious zzz, nurse was great both ….. there was one person who was having a bad day and pretty rude to just about everyone, that’s why I give the 4

- Verified patient on 12/17

With the need for a COVID test with very little notice, I found this Urgent Care Center online and was able to schedule an appt as early as the following day. I waited in my car for maybe 20mins, however once they were ready for me I was in and out of the office within 10 mins maybe less. The staff was efficient, friendly, and I would definitely return if need be.

- Verified patient on 2/8

I called about getting a Covid test. Staff instructed me to call when I got to the parking lot. Once I did, they asked some quick questions and had me pull over to the side of the building. Quick wait, got tested, and left. Great experience

- Verified patient on 7/31

The wait for a Covid test was about 20 minutes or so past my appointment time, but considering the fact the schedule is booked solid and people are waiting in lines at other state testing locations for several hours now to get tested, 20 minutes was certainly acceptable. And the staff who I saw were pretty good. No complaints here.

- Verified patient on 11/18

The wait time was really long, but it was because of the circumstances around Omicron Covid with everyone trying to get a Covid test at the same time. But overall you were well organized and, although we had to wait a few hours, I was very happy with the process! And it was great to get results today!

- Verified patient on 12/18

Excellent experience, however when I got there they only were going to do a PCR test, not a rapid Covid test Which had been ordered during my virtual visit. Had I not asked a question that’s all they would’ve done and I would’ve had no results for one week. The medical assistant was able to find out what happened. However, the overall experience was excellent and people very friendly and cooperative

- Verified patient on 11/28

My husband and I needed our covid test for a last minute trip and they were very accommodating. From the customer care representative, the nurse that facilitated the test to the physician we saw for the virtual consultation. Everyone there is very friendly and professional.

- Verified patient on 4/22

Cynthia Kirkland APRN has been very helpful to me several times over a course of visits I would highly recommend her to anyone needing physician care! Also the gentleman who had to suit up for my covid test who's name I apologize I can't recall was very professional and courteous to my needs. Thank you to all!

- Verified patient on 10/16

Very happy I came here. I loved how they treated me & the covid test was easier then I thought. They got right to what was going on w me & treated the issue. Highly recommend this place to anyone.

Hamden COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Hamden?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Hamden?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Hamden-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Hamden?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Hamden including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Hamden?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Hamden-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Hamden?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Hamden are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Hamden?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Hamden?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
