Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I was there for a COVID test, which means I didn't get out of my car. The tech/nurses who came to the car was so nice. The tech who did the test, Hermonie, explained each step so I knew exactly what was going to happen. The doctor who came out to see me at the car was so warm and understanding. When I said I am a teacher and a student in one of my classes tested positive, he was so kind and appreciative. Great bedside manner. I was so impressed, I made an appointment for today, Saturday, for my husband to get a chest x-ray before his surgery on Tuesday. We live in Debary and drove down to Winter Park for the appointment. This facility is so convenient to my school, and I think my days of doc in a box at CVS are over.

Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I was in for a COVID test. I was not comfortable waiting in the office, which was full, so they let me wait in my car and they came outside to do the test. The Doctor came out first to meet me and then the nurse came to do the test. The procedure was explained to me before he did it. I scheduled online and filled out the paperwork before I came in. Doing this ahead of time limited my time inside with the other patients. I was very comfortable going to Guidewell. Everyone was very kind and accommodating! Thank you to the healthcare personnel!

Although I had to wait a long time to see the doctor it was worth it. I absolutely love Dr.Colon. I wish she had her own practice. She was VERY thorough, explained everything, great bedside manner. There was one employee that was quite rude. I went out of my room explaining I had been there two hours and I was supposed to be getting on a plane to go out of state in four hours and I was concerned because I had not seen the doctor yet. She sort of jumped on me and said "we'll do you want to go ahead and leave? " I explained that I needed to find out what was wrong with me that I may not be able to go out of town. I unfortunately did not get her name. If I would have I would go into further detail about her since that was not the only time I feel like she was rude to me. I'm sure the staff knows who she is, she was very loud and rude. Also the big guy who came in to hook up my I-V and also give me the covid test was overly rough. I have had the covid test a couple times and he was extremely harsh giving the test.

I am at MedFast twice weekly for CDC mandated biweekly Covid testing. The staff are fabulous. They’re like family.

Went for a covid test. Very pleased with staff and professionalism

Exceptional....staff was patience, caringand supportive.....the ladies at the front desk did a great job informing walkin pts about the Covid testing and exactly where to go for a quick test...the front desk staff was very reassuring to the patients that were waiting to be seen as some approached them every five mins....personally I would never go to the ER again unless it was extreme emergency.....your facility stands far above any WalkIn clinic we have ever had to go to....the fact that you all truly do care is evidence in the treatment received.

Came in for a COVID test, waited 35 mins in the room till they came in to do the test and 25 mins after to get the results.

Went for a covid test, I was in and out very quickly. All of the stuff at harbor city; Morgan, Don, Kimberly, and Sheantai were amazing! Very professional 10/10 recommend!

Despite the huge surge in COVID cases and the subsequent impact it’s had on volume, everyone in this office did a fantastic job at remaining friendly and upbeat. Tiffany at the front desk was fast and efficient getting us checked in; Shernette the nurse made my daughter feel very comfortable during her test, her demeanor with children is excellent, and Dr. Armando did a thorough exam even though we just came for a COVID test. I would highly recommend PM Pediatrics to any friends or family members. It was clean and the staff was doing a great job despite the unfortunate situation children and parents in Florida are now faced with. Thank you PM staff.

Needed COVID test on Christmas Eve. Only place open, so it was mobbed. Ladies were very patient with some not so nice people. They did a great job!

It was super quick, showed up with lung congestion, and was near immediately seen. Passed (negative) a COVID test and had a super nice PA in my room within minutes, gave me a preemptive antibiotic in case things get worse to spare me another visits, and generally listened to what I had to say and treated it accordingly.

I made an appointment for a Covid test. It was for 3:40 pm on Tuesday, August 2. After checking in, we were told to wait in our car til they called us. The wait time would be about 20 minutes. My husband and I waited almost 1 hour in our car before I went in and asked how much longer. Personnel told me they were about ready for us and I could get my husband. Johnathan did our nasal swabs and was very professional. Dr. Dean, great personality and very caring, did come in our room to talk with us before he told us to wait in our car for about 15 minutes for the results. We waited about a half hour before Dr. Dean came out to our car to give us the paperwork that we were negative for Covid. Would suggest timeframes would be more accurate. results.

What a great experience! I had scheduled a covid test for my daughter at Walgreens and when we arrived they said their site was down and couldn’t do any testing until the following day. I was panicking trying to find somewhere that could test her for covid since she was sent home from school with symptoms. It was after 5pm and after searching and calling different places I called medfast in Titusville… there was an actual person who pleasantly answered the phone… not an automated *press 1 for…* voice. She welcomed us to come in for my daughters testing. The sign in was quick and easy… we waited in the car and completed the text registration which was super easy and convenient! Our wait time was less than 20 minutes and we went straight into a room. The nurse (Nieves) was so kind and comforting to my daughter. She administered the test so carefully that my daughter barely flinched. We were finished with everything in less than an hour total! I appreciate the staff being so kind and efficient. Thank you for being available and taking such great care of my child!

My first visit Went for covid test Very pleased

Omgoodness, they were all so very kind and went above and beyond their expertise. We drove from Indiana yesterday for a cruise leaving in the morning. Once we arrived at Cape Canaveral we had to get a Covid test less than 48 hours before debarkation. Time frame did not make it possible to complete before we left. I thought Covid tests were all the same - No! The nurse actually took the time to Google search if their test would work for our cruise line. She put me at ease, when she walked in and said it would work. Thank you again for your kindness! You are loved!

Considering that everyone is trying to get a Covid test right now this staff was truly amazing. I would not want their job that for sure.

Came in for a rapid Covid test for travel

- Verified patient on 12/11

There was only one poor guy doing all the tests, so it took over an hour to get to me even though I had an appointment. Could have gotten it done for free with a little longer wait at the park - the whole reason I came here and paid was to get it done immediately. Other than that issue, the staff was friendly and professional, and the one guy was visibly doing his best to get to everyone quickly. In general I would recommend UrgentMed for their friendly and helpful staff and clean and professional environment. Covid tests aren't easy anywhere, so can't really hold that against them.

Melbourne COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Melbourne?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Melbourne?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Melbourne-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Melbourne?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Melbourne including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Melbourne?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Melbourne-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Melbourne?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Melbourne are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Melbourne?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Melbourne?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
