I spent the Thanksgiving holiday coughing my way through dinner and promised my daughter I would get care right afterwards. AFC Urgent Care is easier and quicker than seeing my PCP.  I was early and expected to wait, but they took me right in. The medical assistant took my vitals and the physician came in soon afterwards. She was very friendly and thorough, and answered my questions about possible drug interactions. I was out and in my car about ten minutes after my scheduled  appointment time.

Will not write about my experience other than the fact that the receptionist  young lady that checked me in and took my vitals was excellent. Do not want to share what followed.

Thank you to staff of PromptMD Fort Lee for the patience, compassion, and consideration. They were scheduled to close early yesterday (Black Friday) but made the decision to stay on and see 3 more patients (including myself)!

About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

According to the CDC, anyone who has been exposed to the hepatitis virus, either through sexual contact, sharing needles, or from an infected mother to her newborn during childbirth, should get tested. Individuals with multiple sexual partners, men who have sex with men, and those who have other sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, are at a higher risk. It's also recommended for individuals traveling to countries with high rates of hepatitis, and those with liver disease or family history of hepatitis.

Importance of getting tested

Hepatitis is a serious infection that can lead to liver disease and cancer if left untreated. Early detection through testing allows for immediate treatment, reducing the risk of severe health complications. It also helps prevent the spread of the virus to others. According to the CDC, many people with hepatitis do not have symptoms and can unknowingly spread the virus.

Prevalence of hepatitis in Chestnut Ridge

Chestnut Ridge, located in Bergen County, NY, has seen a steady number of hepatitis cases over the years. While the exact number is not known, it is comparable to the rates in nearby cities such as Monsey, Spring Valley, Nanuet, Pearl River, and Upper Saddle River. However, it's important to note that many cases of hepatitis go unreported due to lack of symptoms, making it crucial for at-risk individuals to get tested.

Risk factors related to hepatitis in Chestnut Ridge

Risk factors for hepatitis in Chestnut Ridge are similar to those in other parts of the country. These include unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, drug use, and travel to countries with high hepatitis prevalence.

Other STDs in Chestnut Ridge

In addition to hepatitis, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis are also present in Chestnut Ridge. The presence of these STDs can increase the risk of contracting hepatitis, making regular testing for all STDs important for those at risk.
