It was very easy to book an appointment online. There was no wait, just a few forms to fill out. The nurse practitioner was knowledgeable and friendly. I got the care I needed, and prescriptions were sent to my pharmacy. I would use them again for urgent care.

AFC Urgent Care Clinic was clean, sterile in feel; fitted with the latest in tech design and equipment; organized procedurally; staffed with friendly, helpful, serious people. The doctor assigned to me far exceeded my expectations. She made me feel as if I were her sole concern, would like to keep her. I felt I was receiving the best of care. I do not have a primary care physician; however, this experience was so far removed from having to visit a doctor’s office. I did require urgent medical attention; the convenience of a walk-in clinic surpassed not having a PCP, especially when the care I received was excellent, as this was.

Was sent home from school with 101.4 temperature the day before.   Temperature kept rising and it hurt to breathe, laugh or cough.   Since I’m asthmati, I knew it was either bronchitis or pleurisy which I get every winter.   A coworker raved about this place so I dropped in!   Not disappointed!

Called the center as a walk in and was able to schedule an appointment right away! All staff were friendly from the desk receptionist to the nursing/doctor staff. I was treated fairly and with care and all of my concerns were addressed properly. Wait times may vary depending on the time and day as I went after work around 5:30pm, but everything was quick between the paperwork and the visit! I would definitely recommend this location and I will be returning in the future if need be!

Overview of STD Testing in Houston

Who should get tested for STDs?

In Houston, TX, and the rest of the United States, sexually active individuals should consider getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This is particularly important for those who have multiple sexual partners, those who do not consistently use condoms during sex, and those who have shared needles during drug use. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all sexually active women under the age of 25 get tested for gonorrhea and chlamydia annually, as these groups are at higher risk. According to the CDC, men who have sex with men should also get tested more frequently, ideally every 3 to 6 months.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial in maintaining sexual and overall health. Many STDs, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, can be asymptomatic, meaning they do not present any noticeable symptoms. If left untreated, these diseases can lead to severe health complications, including infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and increased risk of contracting HIV. Regular testing allows for early detection and treatment, reducing the risk of these complications and helping to prevent the spread of these diseases to others.

Prevalence of STDs in Houston

Houston, located in Harris County, has seen a significant increase in STD rates over the years. According to the CDC, Harris County ranks among the top in the nation for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis cases. In comparison to nearby cities such as West University Place, Bellaire, and Jacinto City, Houston has a higher prevalence of STDs. The rates of STDs in Houston are also higher than the national average, underscoring the importance of regular testing.

Risk factors related to STDs in Houston

Several factors contribute to the high prevalence of STDs in Houston. These include a lack of comprehensive sex education, high poverty rates, and limited access to healthcare services in certain areas. Additionally, stigma and lack of awareness around STDs can prevent people from getting tested and treated. To combat the spread of STDs, it's crucial to get tested regularly, especially if you're sexually active and fall into one of the high-risk groups. With 741 testing locations in the area, including NeuMed Modern Urgent Care and AFC Urgent Care, getting tested in Houston has never been easier.
