The doctor listened to me and took the time to do the proper test to diagnose me. It was late when I came in and close to closing but she took her time and treated me.

I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at American Family Care - The Grove. I was not feeling well the day after Thanksgiving and expected to not only be faced with a long wait but with average service given the holiday. I have never been to an American Care where I felt truly cared for and felt as though the staff and provider truly were concerned for my health and well-being. It was a great experience to be cared for

This visit was very very good except for one thing… My GPS got me lost despite the fact that I had no problems finding it the first time. My GPS sent me to Wells Fargo down the road onto 280. Of course this is not the fault of American family care. I plan to move out here in this area and if I cannot get an appointment with my regular physician, I will most certainly come to your site! You were most courteous and friendly, and the doctor made me feel safe and secure. I told her everything that’s going on in my life and she truly made me feel better. Thank all of you so much

Although my total time at AFC was 2 hours, and much longer than it normally is, I feel like it was an adequate amount of time during lunch hour (peak time when people go). Once I was back in the room, my wait time wasn’t long, or at least it didn’t feel that way.  The NP I saw was lovely but I felt a little frustrated that she didn’t state a diagnosis out loud and it wasn’t until I was on my way out the door when I realized that I was only diagnosed with seasonal allergies. I would have disagreed with this and asked for antibiotics because I can tell this ain’t regular allergies (they have not ever caused this level of discomfort) and it likely a bacterial or sinus infection. This will likely prolong my healing unfortunately.  I was pretty displeased that the MCA/tech who did my steroid injection did so in a manner that seems he was very nervous or it was one of the first times. The needle went in the first time pretty slowly, which made me jump, he pulled the needle back out and used the same needle to then push into my skin again. I’m not thrilled that this happened because it should have been a different needle and there is a far quicker and better way of performing injections (such as dart-like motion which gives more control). I ask that you all do a retraining of performing injections if a nurse, NP, or physician is not the ones to do the injections. Outside of these two negative parts of my review, everything was lovely as usual and I will still come back because everyone here is very friendly and the office is very clean

My husband was diagnosed with a UTI last Wednesday.  He was given a prescription & a shot.  The NP Jessica Godwin and all of the staff were great.  Jessica was very attentive to what we were saying about Jimmy’s symptoms.  We went back yesterday for a urine recheck.  We saw Dr Hackett, she was very through in the recheck to make sure that the UTI was clearing up and it was improving.  We would highly recommend using Southern Immediate Care in Helena. All of the staff were very attentive, through and respectful.  I love setting up your appointments online and being able to pick the best time for you, also the check-in was easy.

Overview of STD Testing in Calera

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, especially those with multiple partners or those who don't consistently use protection during sex. It's also important for pregnant women to get tested, as some STDs can cause complications during pregnancy or may be passed to the baby during childbirth. According to the CDC, individuals who are in a monogamous relationship should still consider regular testing.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for maintaining good sexual health. Many STDs often have no symptoms, which means they can go undetected and untreated if not tested. Untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications, including infertility and increased risk of HIV. Regular testing allows for early detection and treatment, preventing the spread to others.

Prevalence of STDs in Calera

Calera, located in Shelby County, AL, has seen a rise in STD cases over the years, mirroring the national trend. According to the CDC, the most commonly reported STDs in the area are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Comparatively, the rates of these STDs are lower than in nearby Fulton and DeKalb counties, but higher than in Webster and Barrow counties.

Risk factors related to STDs in Calera

Several factors contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Calera. These include a lack of sexual health education, reduced access to healthcare, and socioeconomic factors. Additionally, stigma around STD testing can prevent individuals from seeking testing and treatment. It's crucial to combat these risk factors through increased education, access to testing, and reducing stigma around sexual health.
