I have been a patient at MPFC for about 15 years. My provider, Dr Gaskill is excellent. She listens to my concerns and answers my questionIs in a way I can understand. I have been impressed with the entire staff from front desk to accounting as well as the "Portal" experience. The quick response, attention to detail and overall customer service keeps me coming back year after year. I would highly recommend MPFC to anyone looking for a new medical clinic and knowledgable team.

Exceptional service, from the front desk staff to the Doctor, I really couldn't say more. I can't remember a physician being more thorough and compassionate! I really can't say enough about this office. I've been to several other Urgent Cares, including First Care and Providence Express Care, and they were worlds apart. The wait time was short, the billing process was effortless, and they had medication on hand so I didn't have to go to the pharmacy, which for me was really just the icing on the cake!

Overview of STD Testing in Anchorage

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs, particularly those with multiple partners or those who engage in unprotected sex. It's also important for pregnant women to get tested as STDs can cause complications during pregnancy and may be passed to the baby. The CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is a crucial part of maintaining good sexual health. Many STDs do not show symptoms, so testing is the only way to know for sure if you have one. Early detection can prevent complications and the spread of STDs to others. According to the CDC, untreated STDs can lead to serious health issues like infertility, cancer, and organ damage.

STD testing options in Anchorage, AK:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care centers and walk-in clinics in Anchorage offer convenient and quick STD testing. Alpine Urgent Care and FirstCare Walk-In are two such facilities where you can book same-day or next-day appointments through Solv. These centers provide a range of STD tests and often have shorter wait times than traditional doctor's offices.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also conduct STD testing. They can provide a comprehensive sexual health evaluation and guide you on the appropriate tests based on your risk factors and symptoms.

Free STD testing and community health centers

Community health centers and public health clinics often offer free or low-cost STD testing. These centers are a vital resource for those who may not have insurance or who cannot afford testing at a private clinic.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits are another option. These kits can be ordered online, used in the privacy of your own home, and then sent back to a lab for analysis. Results are typically available online within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Anchorage

Anchorage, located in the Anchorage Municipality County, has seen a rise in STD rates in recent years, mirroring a national trend. The most common STDs in the area are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. Compared to nearby cities like Point MacKenzie, Eagle River, Big Lake, Hope, and Houston, Anchorage has a higher prevalence of STDs. Similarly, STD rates in Anchorage are higher than in nearby counties like Kenai Peninsula Borough, Valdez-Cordova Census Area, Matanuska-Susitna Borough, Lake and Peninsula Borough, and Yukon-Koyukuk Census Area.

Risk factors related to STDs in Anchorage

Several factors contribute to the high STD rates in Anchorage. These include a lack of comprehensive sex education, reduced access to healthcare, and social stigma associated with STD testing. Additionally, certain populations, such as young adults and men who have sex with men, are at a higher risk. It's crucial to address these factors to reduce the spread of STDs in the community.
