The room number 4 smelled like wet dogs. The doctor has very less experience, she doesn’t have to know everything but she needed to google more before to meet with patients. The front desk woman was nice when we checked in and out.

Brita and Caroline the PA were amazing! They were very efficient. I love how clean the facility was. I would recommend these two ladies and your urgent care to anyone. I work in the medical field and I was very impressed. The only thing I would recommend would be wheel chair accessible doors. There should be a push button for entrance and exit. Overall I give this place a 10 out of 10

Have a physician 3 in the office and not one could see me in weeks time. Pitiful. I was out of town, flying back in late Friday. My daughter got on and had me an appointment immediately. Saturday morning I was at your clinic pronto. Soar throat, ears, hurting, feeling like crap. You were all wonderful, professional, and quick. With the prescriptions I got by evening I felt like a new person. I'm sorry I didn't get your names but you were great! Merry Christmas and Happy new year to you all.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Excellent urgent care experience for Covid testing! The professionalism of each staff member that I interacted with was unparalleled. I would recommend a society to anyone! Kind, friendly and thorough. I would like to personally thank you for taking such great care of me and my wife.

- Verified patient on 11/21

This is my first visit and I was surprised how organized and friendly the staff were. I came in for a covid test and my whole experience was very pleasant. I would definitely recommend family and friends to use the services of this facility.

- Verified patient on 11/25

Professional staff, very organized, Doctor, aides , front desk staff so pleasant and helpful! They were so busy but everyone worked so well under the pressure . I was very worried and upset about getting my Covid test. Made me feel at ease and answered all my questions.

- Verified patient on 11/11

Thank you to all the medical staff that seen me today. My Covid test wasn’t as bad as I was thinking it was going to be oh and I just want to thank all the staff for their medical expertise and working through this pandemic thanks again

- Verified patient on 9/8

They were courteous, friendly. The wait time wasn’t so bad in the pandemic that we are in I was in for a Covid test. First time being at that urgent care. I would recommend it I will be going back to that urgent care for now on. I have no interest in returning to Pine knob urgent care they are horrible there.

- Verified patient on 10/21

My 1st visit, doctor was very rude after I explained I came in 5 days after my wife was positive.she said it was a waste of time. I need to come in 5 days after her quarantine was over. I said was just doing what my doc told me..Very rude answered your doctor needs to pay attention. Seemed very irritated. Also was in room less than 5 minutes and of course, charged me for a visit. Would prefer just the covid test in the future, she really did not do nothing but complain and charge me.

- Verified patient on 12/27

Overall we had a good experience. However, I do no understand why there is a screening process in the waiting room. This seems like it would violate HIPPA. I could hear everyone’s reason for coming in and they could hear mine. Just because of the COVID pandemic does not mean privacy should not be protected. How about a survey you can fill out? Also there was a push to test my six year old for Covid based on her symptoms. I asked for everything to be ruled out first. My daughter was diagnosed with strep throat. Let’s not push for a Covid test by until other conditions are ruled out.

- Verified patient on 12/15

Although the wait was longer than anticipated I understood they were very busy with walk-ins, covid testing, and antibody testing. I could tell the front administration had been taxed with the same questions over and over from phone calls and those walking in. The doctor and nurse I saw in the room were great. They were quick and got me in and out very fast which offset my wait time. I will definitely recommend them and visit in the future

- Verified patient on 4/24

Unfortunately I waited 45 minutes for a scheduled appointment. Then another 20 minutes for a pcr covid test. I'm sure someone dropped the ball. I have to be tested every 2 weeks and this was my first bad experience. All in all I'm still very satisfied with my overall experience. Have a great day.

- Verified patient on 12/14

This is the best Urgent Care I’ve ever been to. There was a wait for Covid testing but they have a great system that you can watch online to see how many people are ahead of you so you can wait comfortably in your car. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Highly recommend!

- Verified patient on 11/11

The wait time was very long but I expected that do to the circumstances of today. Once I was in didnt take long. Took a covid test but the doctor was very receptive to the fact I felt it was just a sinus infection. She gave me recommendations and some rx to help. I felt 100% better the next day.

- Verified patient on 11/26

I had a 4pm appointment for a rapid COVID test. I checked in at 350pm. At 430 I called to see if I was still “in line”. Yes was response and was told that I would be called in shortly. I was waiting in my car. At 530 I was called to come inside. I was on my way home at 620 after getting my results. Waiting an hour and half for a rapid test with an appointment seemed a little long.

- Verified patient on 11/19

I went to get COVID tested with my friend after traveling to FL. The nurse we had was awesome! She put up with both of us being nervous and very anxious for the test. The lady at the front desk was quick with getting our information in the computer and very friendly! The PA was great as well!!! Thanks for making our COVID testing as good as it was!!!

- Verified patient on 6/25

Went in for a COVID test. There was many people there before I arrived an hour before they closed. Staff was great, kind and efficient. I am married to a nurse so I understand the craziness these healthcare people are dealing with. Thank you for the great visit. I will recommend them to everyone that asks me!!!

- Verified patient on 11/13

Went in for a Covid test for work. Everyone was very professional and nice. I know I can go to Springfield urgent care and get my test results the next day. I use the Clarkston office and they have always been great.

- Verified patient on 9/19

the nurse administered the covid test and the pa who consulted us on it were great however the nurse/tech who initially met with us in the exam room to check vitals wasn’t apparently having a great day... she first asked if anything changed with my son’s chart... to the lay person, we didn’t really understand her question and i’m not sure we answered correctly... she then asked what his weight and height after walking past the scale and height measurement device to get to the exam room... lastly, she didn’t share his vitals with us before leaving but just closed her laptop and said the nurse would be in... i said thank you very clearly but she didn’t even acknowledge my gratitude... as noted, probably having a rough day as the clinic was busy but thought you should know

- Verified patient on 3/15

I had to wait for 2 hours. I was in pain. I came into the building and they told me I had to wait outside. I didn’t even sign in. I know covid is over whelming society but they should ask people if they want to be tested or they are actually hurt which I was. Put injured people ahead of Covid testing people.

- Verified patient on 11/25

I was amazed at the front desk staff because they were so helpful and patient with everybody. I was in the waiting are for a long time and was really impressed. Doctor Beckley was professional, patient, made sure I could get my prescription on my way home and very thorough. The young man that did my Covid test was kind and sweet. I was so impressed with everybody there. I won’t hesitate to go back there or drive a friend there even if it’s out of our way. When I got the text from the lab and couldn’t get my results I called them and didn’t hesitate to help me with that either. Thank you so much

- Verified patient on 1/1

I’m from out of town and needed a Covid test. I went here and they were so incredibly welcoming and friendly. They took me in almost immediately and were very professional. They actually made it kind of fun! If I lived in this area, they would be my number one choice.

- Verified patient on 6/1

Came in 35 minutes before closing for a COVID test due to being exposed. They were pleasant and apologetic about my wait, which wasn’t that long considering. I apologized to them for coming in so close to closing, but had just found out. Highly recommend.

Clarkston COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Clarkston?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Clarkston?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Clarkston-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Clarkston?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Clarkston including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Clarkston?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Clarkston-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Clarkston?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Clarkston are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Clarkston?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Clarkston?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
