After 3 days of not feeling well went to our nearest AFC UC and was greeted with friendly faces and helpful staff. Confirmed my illness with testing by Breyahana and meds sent to my pharmacy (although not a lot of explanation about meds by NP Perry - just advised to take them b/c of age related to diagnosis.) In/out in less than 35 minutes. Overall satisfied with our visit!

Overview of STD Testing in Charlotte

Who should get tested for STDs?

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), anyone who is sexually active should be tested for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs). This includes individuals who have had unprotected sex, multiple partners, or a partner who has an STD. It's also important for pregnant women to get tested to prevent passing an STD to their unborn child. Regular testing is recommended even if you don’t have symptoms, as many STDs can be asymptomatic but still harmful if left untreated.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for several reasons. Firstly, many STDs do not show symptoms, meaning you could be infected and not know it. Untreated STDs can lead to serious health complications such as infertility, cancer, and increased susceptibility to HIV. Secondly, knowing your status can help protect your sexual partners from also becoming infected. Finally, early detection often leads to more effective treatment.

STD testing options in Charlotte, NC:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics are convenient options for STD testing in Charlotte. These facilities often offer same-day appointments, which can be booked through Solv’s website and mobile app. One highly rated option is Novant Health-GoHealth Urgent Care, located at 445 S Kings Dr, Charlotte, NC 28204.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers are another option for STD testing. If you have a long-standing relationship with your provider, it may be comfortable to discuss your concerns and symptoms with them. These providers can also offer follow-up care and treatment.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those with limited resources, free STD testing is available at community health centers in Charlotte. These centers provide services regardless of your ability to pay.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing is another option. These tests provide privacy and convenience, allowing you to take the test at your own comfort and pace. Results are usually available within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Charlotte

According to the CDC, Charlotte, located in Mecklenburg County, has a high prevalence of STDs compared to other cities and nearby counties like Raleigh County, Fayette County, Forsyth County, Brunswick County, and Wyoming County. The most common STDs in Charlotte are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. The rates of these diseases have been rising over the past few years, highlighting the importance of regular testing.

Risk factors related to STDs in Charlotte

Several risk factors contribute to the high prevalence of STDs in Charlotte. These include high rates of unprotected sex, multiple sexual partners, and lack of regular testing. Additionally, certain populations, such as young adults and men who have sex with men, are disproportionately affected by STDs. Socioeconomic factors like poverty and lack of access to healthcare also play a role in the spread of STDs. It's important to understand these risk factors and take preventative measures, such as using protection and getting regular STD tests.
