This was my 1st time here after I sent my husband who was not feeling well. So glad I went after having such a bad earache, but was even happier that I git NP Maria who he had. Sweet, patient and very thorugh. I do not go to doctors unless it's really bad. The staff was nice and polite. I will definitely recommend them.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I found out at 3 PM that I had been exposed to Covid. I unsuccessfully visited 2 other places trying to get a Covid test before I visited Riverside Urgent Care. I was seen, tested, and received my results before 430! It was a truly amazing experience.

Everyone was so nice! We called so many places to get a rapid covid test and this was the only place that took us walk-ins last minute around 6 o’clock on a Saturday night. The two lady’s at the front desk were so sweet & the women who did our covid test was super nice as well. Very clean as well !

Good. Fast and easy for COVID test.

I've had 3 covid tests and although I hate the stabbing..the staff is friendly and efficient!

Went for Covid test everyone very nice

- Verified patient on 3/27

This is my 3rd time over the past few months that I have been to this location for Covid testing. The first 2 times everything & everyone was AMAZING!! This time I also came for a Covid test and the staff Stacy that was assigned to take my vitals as well as perform my Covid test was THEE ABSOLUTE WORSE from her attitude to her poor bedside manner and want to be argumentative with me when I asked for someone else to do my test. The first issue was when she went to take my temperature with the “under tongue” thermometer and I pulled my mask down she said “no keep your mask on” and was about to insert the thermometer in MY NOSE! Then she corrected herself and proceeded to take it under my tongue. Next she starts to perform my Covid swab test and aggressively dug deep in my nose and swirled the swab more then 15 or so times AGGRESSIVELY...when I moved in discomfort she rudely said “you need to stay still” When I explained to her that this is my 3rd Covid test here and nobody else aggressively dug that deep and long she rudely said “well we all have our own technique” At that point I asked for someone else to perform the test and Wendy came in and did so with ease! As I was explaining to Wendy what the issue was with Stacy all of a sudden Stacy popped back into the explain herself. When I was done I spoke with the office manager Jessica and she was also very professional & pleasant like all of the other staff besides Stacy. I will continue to use this facility but not Stacy. Even if she was having a bad day like we all do sometimes...her unprofessionalism is unacceptable.

I have know Dan Murtha thru business networking, many years. He has always dine amazing work with overall operation. I got to witness that when I set up and had a COVID test. I called s few days ahead, to schedule. The lovely female staff member instructed me that if I fo online to register the day before (8am is when schedule is set up for next day) that I should be able to get 3 appts in together, without trouble. Wed, I had alittle difficulty registering my hubby. I called and spoke to Clinical staff member Erica. She assisted me with online registration. I was stressed with the idea that my hubby had been exposed to the virus, and myself and my mother in law also had to be tested. I wanted to make sure that all 3 of us were tested in 10 min time frames consecutively. Erica was compassionate to my needs, registering us from her end. I was able to fill out insurance from my phone easily. I liked how I was informed via text, and could check my wait time. I arrived 20 mins early, and did not have a long wait time. Outside of building looked clean and neat. Inside was decorated in relaxing neutral colors with a modern feel. Immaculate! Very large waiting area allowed seating to be properly spaced, and then some! Aliki Galandos took our info from car, called us to come in, and brought us back to complete testing. She was patient, answering all of our questions cheerfully. She explained process and allowed time for any other questions.(first time for all of us!). She explained timing of pcr test results, and how to retrieve them thru Lab Corp online. Excellent experience. We left extremely satisfied. I have always referred family and friends to this Urgent Care since I met Dan, and saw his passion regarding his extremely well run front end staff and clinical team. This week I got to witness the great care myself, and I was not disapointed!

- Verified patient on 8/8

Had an appointment for a Covid test. In and out in just a couple minutes.

- Verified patient on 3/21

The front desk representatives were quite rude. They I do not think know their job, told me I have to pay a co pay though through my insurance it is free. I have got COVID tested before few times, and I did not have to pay. I went for the PCR testing they did a rapid test on me. I am very disappointed with the service.

- Verified patient on 12/25

I came in to the facility at 2:21pm gave my name and was told to fill out the iPad and then wait in my car. As such, I went to my car and completed the paperwork online as indicated. This all wrapped up probably by 2:30pm. Then at 3:26pm the facility called to verify my name and why I was there I told her I was waiting for a PCR covid test and that I’m in a Hyundai palisade. She asked me a few more questions and then said she’d be right out. Called me again at 3.29p to ask what type of car I’m in. I explained that I’m in a Hyundai palisade. She said ok I’ll be right out. At 3.53pm I called and spoke to receptionist and said I’m waiting in the parking lot for a PCR Covid test and they said they’d be out shortly to administer the test but they haven’t come out yet and I was wondering if she is having trouble finding my car. The receptionist asked me to hold, came back and said that she just spoke to the girl and that she said I’m ok to go. And I said I am? Even though I haven’t received what it is I’m here to receive…a PCR COvid test. The receptionist said that the girl told her she already tested me and I assured her that no one has been out to my car. Eventually the girl came out and performed the procedure and told me that she thought the last person she did was me. So after spending 1 and 1/2 hours in your parking lot do to confusion, when I do get my results…I’m not 100% confident that the results are mine or those of someone else’s that she thought was me and possibly mislabeled and sent in. Very concerning. And when I arrived the waiting room had one person in there so backlog wasn’t the issue.

Brought my daughter for a covid test.. was taken in quickly and was out very quickly

- Verified patient on 4/3

I scheduled my appointment and was asked to come in 20 minutes early. I waited one hour and 20 minutes in my call before getting called in I explained I had chest pains and shortness of breath. I explained my Sp02 meter was reading low The doctor explain to me he can’t do a chest x-ray because you change company names and it’s not up and running however he was nice to point out that if it was up and running he would be able to tell me in five minutes my results The doctor stayed at the farthest point of the room. He would not listen to my lungs or evaluate me. I was told take two aspirins and go home and contact my primary doctor in two days. My test results did indicate that no one mark the time or the date on my Covid test as required by state law Thanks

- Verified patient on 1/14

I had an appointment and actually had to wait over an hour to get in to see someone for a COVID test. Why bother making appt if they r not adhered to

- Verified patient on 8/3

The Assistant/PA/tech/nurse whoever took my sons vitals was very abrupt and not welcoming. She made it feel like we were inconveniencing her by being there. As soon as I said my son had a sore throat, someone yelled from the other room that they don’t have any rapid strep tests. When the doctor came in he was nice I asked for a rapid covid test, when the same tech came back to swab my son she threw the door open and pushed the stool against the wall. Again making me feel like she didn’t want to be doing her job and we were inconveniencing her. I couldn’t wait to leave she was so rude.

- Verified patient on 6/12

I waited over an hour for my appointment. I came in for a Covid test and a sinus infection the doctor never check my sinuses and was calling in a prescription for Augmentin yesterday I still have not received my prescription and nobody answers the phone a horrific experience

- Verified patient on 10/20

In these times, I expected to wait at least an hour, especially since I was a walk in. The front staff and the staff taking my vitals couldn't have been nicer. I understand you are very busy but I did expect to spend more than 2 or 3 minutes with your nurse practitioner. She informed me that she would be doing a covid test and that if it was positive I would have to quarantine for 2 weeks. She listened to my lungs and said she would be calling a prescription into my pharmacy. She asked if I was vaccinated and when I said yes she said "Never mind. I" m not going to do a covid test". She said it would be awhile before she could call in the prescription because she had other patients to see....and she was gone. Never told me what she suspected was the problem. Never asked if I had any questions. At 4:30, I called the office and left a message asking about the prescription. It is now after 6pm and still no call from CVS that a prescription is ready for me. If she had given me 30 seconds more of her time, she could have ordered the prescription. I would have been able to start the medication hours ago and she would have one less thing to deal with in her obviously busy schedule.

- Verified patient on 8/11

Very pleasant experience. Basically there was no wait time and I was given a covid test almost immediately after filling out paperwork. Customer service and treatment is excellent. I would return for care when needed and recommend this Urgent Care to others.

East Brunswick COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in East Brunswick?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in East Brunswick?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your East Brunswick-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in East Brunswick?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near East Brunswick including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in East Brunswick?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many East Brunswick-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in East Brunswick?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in East Brunswick are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 East Brunswick?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in East Brunswick?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
