Will not write about my experience other than the fact that the receptionist  young lady that checked me in and took my vitals was excellent. Do not want to share what followed.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I was really dreading going in for my covid test and the staff at your establishment made the whole process feel safe and comfortable, it was such a great experience, i will always use this urgent care from now on

- Verified patient on 1/2

I was getting a covid test done. I don't have the virus it was due to getting a procedure done. The doctor came out to the car and was very nice and friendly and administered the test in my nose. He assured me that it didn't hurt just a little u comfortable. It was done in seconds. I would definitely recommend.

- Verified patient on 6/13

I arrived for my carside COVID test and called to inform them that I was waiting outside. My call was routed, twice, to the wrong office. Once a staff member from the Norwalk office contacted Dan, at the Mohegan Lake office he called me directly. Dan understood the miscommunication and corrected it. The doctor who performed my test was very courteous and professional, inquiring about my current health concerns and assuring me that I will be contacted regarding the test results as soon as possible.

- Verified patient on 4/11

Convenient and true quality of care from start to finish. The PA during the virtual visit was kind, attentive, and had an approachable personality. The staff at the Mohegan Lake center were superb! From the front desk staff member who greeted me when I walked in for my test (as well as who answered and set up my virtual visit) to the medical professional who performed my COVID test, everyone was fantastic. My experience was memorable because it was efficient and everyone was very kind. Best urgent care facility in Westchester. I am a medical professional and will be referring all of my patients here due to the quality of care I have recieved.

- Verified patient on 10/26

This was my first ti.e. I came for a Covid test, I arrived at 7:45 A.M. and never got in until after noon. I was 17th in line, a d after registration, I was 48. Ridiculous. It should be first come, first serve.

- Verified patient on 12/24

Second time going for COVID testing, the staff takes all necessary precautions to keep themselves and all other patients safe. Patients are evaluated promptly and results given in 15 minutes. Thankful for the work they do for our community, definitely a great place to have with wonderful staff.

- Verified patient on 2/13

The staff were wonderful and we should all thank them for even being there! A special thanks to Dan the clinical director. Nothing but kindness and compassion even as he was multitasking and believe me it was crowded. The care was great and I felt I got individual attention, energy at the end of the night. I witnessed how well they cleaned everything after each patient!! I rated the wait time as a 3 but this should not be a reflection in the site or the staff. They did everything in their power to keep it as short as possible. They even arrived early to hand out rerun times to walk-in patients who wanted COVID testing. Had they not done this we could have been there for hours waiting our turn!! Thank you to everyone!

This is my favorite place to get care!! Whether it is getting Covid testing or an eye infection the care is awesome the people are friendly and Dr explains everything!! My go to place when I’m not feeling too great!!

- Verified patient on 10/31

I went for COVID testing, I was instructed to call from outside, I was triaged over the phone. The physician assistant was great she asked me additional questions over the phone, came outside and took my vitals. The swabbing is uncomfortable because it’s not something I would normally do but she was gentle and didn’t jam the q tip up my nose or down my throat. She was friendly and I’d trust to go to this facility again I just hope it’s just a cold and I’m healthy to not need to at least until next year! Thank you for your service & I appreciate the gentleness.

- Verified patient on 8/3

Rather than have to book a virtual first for a covid test, we were able to book appt for same day; got there early; and were taken in right away (could have done a Walk In too). Staff was amazing from the first operator on the phone to the Front Desk Associate Deborah, nurse, and doctor. Will have test results in 24 to 48 hours. Great experience!

- Verified patient on 2/18

Came for COVID testing From booking appointment to test it was quick and hassle free Request to kindly get me the COVID report by Thursday We have flight to take on Friday morning to India I would appreciate if I can the report by then

- Verified patient on 10/5

Had an appointment for a Covid test but had to wait about 45 minutes to be seen. Once allowed inside the staff was very nice and accommodating. The nurse who did the swab was very friendly and made my husband and I feel comfortable. Once we were done the doctor came in before we were released and explained what happens next. He was very nice. Overall a very good experience.

- Verified patient on 2/10

I went in for a covid test after a video visit with my PCP where she suggested covid as a possibility for a rash on my leg. After the nasal swab, the doctor asked to see the rash and suggested some bloodwork as a precaution. I always feel listened to when I come to this office and everyone I interact with is always kind and friendly.

- Verified patient on 2/22

From the moment I was greeted by reception, to the moment they said “you’re all set!“ It was a fantastic experience with the team at this facility. What a well oiled machine! I must’ve been under a rock because I didn’t know Covid testing could be so professional and streamlined. Thank you guys!

- Verified patient on 9/29

I learned today that I needed a covid test in order to see a pulmonary doctor. I was happy that I was able to speak to someone virtually AND get my covid test today! That means I’ll be able to see my doctor on the appointment date and not have to reschedule !

- Verified patient on 9/29

I came back because of how they treat my child while getting the COVID test. My child was scared of the PCR test based on a past experience of going to far up the nosr. The staff took their time to make sure my child was comfortable before doing the test. I won't go anywhere else for a test now even if I have to wait a day for the results.

- Verified patient on 11/9

Waiting was a bit long but that’s fine. Nurse that gave covid test was sweet and gentle. However waited for PA on duty for 20 minutes for her just to explain how to get results and why I got the test. My friends and I are going away for a weekend and we wanted to get tested to be safe. Explained to her and I felt as though she was disappointed. Did not feel friendly. She made me feel wrong for getting a test with no symptoms. She was very intense for no reason.

- Verified patient on 1/30

I went for a covid test and the doctor was so nice and explained everything he was doing before he did it. I also felt very comfortable with the entire process from booking the appointment to checking in to getting my results after. I would highly recommend this location and all its staff.

- Verified patient on 10/3

It’s very difficult to get my disabled daughter Covid tested she’s 27 but like a 2 year old. The medical professional that did the swab was incredible , was able to get the swab without the major issues we have had at the State run testing sites. Highly recommend them they always go the extra mile to help and as a caregiver that’s so important.

- Verified patient on 1/9

All staff members working this evening were EXCELLENT. They were responsive and friendly. It was a pleasant going to this UC in mohegan lake NY I do have one negative comment. When making an appt online you have to enter all information. When it comes the insurance, it would be best to let patients know AHEAD of time that their insurance is NOT accepted. I NEEDED to have a COVID test this evening. My college required all students in the medical field to have the exam done today. However wherever you go an appointment is required. Unfortunately I WILL be charged for today's exam. I'm very unhappy about this.

Cortlandt COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Cortlandt?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Cortlandt?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Cortlandt-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Cortlandt?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Cortlandt including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Cortlandt?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Cortlandt-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Cortlandt?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Cortlandt are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Cortlandt?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Cortlandt?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
