Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Friendly staff..PA Linda was so nice and very knowledgeable.. had a rapid covid test-negative 😃

- Verified patient on 2/26

I’ve already recommended your facility to friends for Covid testing and care. Staff helpful and knowledgeable. Dr. took time to answer all my questions. Excellent experience!

- Verified patient on 11/28

I normally give 5 stars for staff and it kills me not to this time. The ladies at the desk were great. Very friendly very professional. It wasn’t until i got into room and the medical professional that comes i. To take my temp and vitals was just so nasty. Made me feel very uncomfortable because i wanted both covid tests performed. He kept maki f come bud about teachers and schools and people who work for them who always want to be tested. Called us precious teachers and precious school workers. Was extremely sarcastic and inappropriate. When the dr came in quick he was very professional and very nice. Just the one issue with the person who comes in before dr.

Even with an appointment, there was still a wait. But, it beats having no appointment & standing outside on line for a covid test. My 1st visit, staff was friendlier than this last visit. But I’m sure anyone working in the medicinal field these days is a little burnt out so I get it. I will be returning.

- Verified patient on 2/6

Came in for a Covid test. Front desk staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The doctor on staff stopped in to say hi, ask a few questions and left. The person doing the exam had what I would assume to be a “dry sense of humor”? He told my husband I that he hopes no one would wear a mask and that we would all “get it”. When we explained why we were there he told us that he would see us again after the holiday once we were symptomatic- did not find it funny. At no time did we see him change is gloves and his mask was under his nose. If not for the fact that we wanted results I may have left and went elsewhere. I understand people in these positions are basically exhausted both mentally and physically however, many of us are still very nervous about contracting the virus and his comments were not needed.

I was there for a rapid COVID testthey were prompt professional and courteous and I highly recommend them.

- Verified patient on 10/7

Made an appointment for Covid test but still had to wait 45 minutes. Staff very nice and friendly. Clean and Covid safe.

- Verified patient on 2/2

The facility very clean, hand sanitizer out for use. All staff wearing masks and very friendly. Nurse who did Covid test was terrific! He put me at ease. Text was not painful, just uncomfortable for a few seconds. My only comment would be that the reception staff had no barrier up. When you see supermarkets and other places w/clear lucite barriers, I would think medical offices would protect their staff with them too.

Family covid test. Fast,clean efficient!

- Verified patient on 10/13

I commend the staff. I was going in for a Rapid COVID test as a walk-in. I did wait 3 hours, but that was ok. There phones never stopped. And they were always courteous.

The new software to check in for covid testing is terrible

- Verified patient on 4/6

Went for rapid covid test. In and out quickly

- Verified patient on 10/2

I'm dissappointed at the inconvenience I experienced. I scheduled a covid test 2 days in advance and input my insurance information into the system. Prohealth verified and confirmed my appointment. On the day of my appointment, I checked in and waited for almost an hour before my name dissappeared from the waiting list. I called to inquire and I was told prohealth did not take my insurance. This was surprising since prohealth was listed as a new york state testing site, which to my understanding meant testing was free. Perhaps I was mistaken, but even so this should have been caught before I had made the appointment and checked in. I feel it would have been more professional for the office to have either let me know I was not eligible for a test or at least had the courtesy to contact me when they removed my name from the waiting list of patients that day.

- Verified patient on 2/14

I overheard Doctor telling someone in hallway that it was a great day! All his covid tests were coming back positive and it’s great for fucking business! Wow! Would never go hack

- Verified patient on 4/15

I did not appreciate feeling like I was being strong-armed into having a COVID test. I had a sinus infection. I did not need a test & declined it THREE times. The PA was insistent. I’m assuming insurance pays for it so everyone has to have one. I will not go back to this facility if I can avoid it in the future. That being said, I did ultimately receive the treatment I needed.

- Verified patient on 3/23

I thought Covid testing was free in the state of NY. I have COPD and I'm almost 65 years old and needed a test desperately. I'm on Medicaid and had to use my last $180 that was for food to pay for this test. I registered on line and should of been told you don't take my insurance. Just a disgrace

- Verified patient on 2/14

I had made an appointment, after checking in and waiting for about 45 minutes or so, I noticed that people who were walk-ins, were being seen ahead of me. I approached the young lady at the front desk, she had no idea who I was, or that I had been waiting for so long. She had to put me back into the system, two more people were called in, and then I was finally able to see the doctor. I felt that making an appointment turned out to be pointless. I could’ve walked in, and not wait as much to be seen. However, the doctor was very friendly and honest. And my results came back right away. But, while I was waiting to see the doctor, one of the receptionists was having personal conversations with other employees around her. She was discussing previously having Covid, the companies vacation policy, and other meaningless and rather unprofessional conversations, that other patients and I were forced to listen to, while sitting or while waiting on a line. Also, I noticed that patients were being given different information when attempting to make an appointment. One was told that they could only make an appointment online. However, a few minutes later, another patient walked in and the other receptionist quickly made him an appointment, I found that to be very inconsistent. Lastly, patients who wanted to have a rapid Covid test, were told to come back at 3pm to then be put on a waiting list. Or to go back to there vehicles and then line up in front of the office at 3pm or as soon as they saw other people lining up. That didn’t make much sense to me, why not just start the list earlier, and then call people to come in and be seen.

Went for a covid test. Everything went very smooth

- Verified patient on 1/26

With a pandemic going on and coming in for covid testing the seats in the waiting area should be wiped down after each patient used them. Other than that it was fine

- Verified patient on 10/14

Very disappointed this time around, as I had a somewhat better experience the last time I was at this clinic. I had to wait inside the lobby of the clinic to be called into a room for testing, rather than being able to wait in my car til a room was available. This just leaves people more susceptible to catching covid/germs, as nothing is cleaned when someone gets up from the couch. I had filled out all paperwork online, including pics/scans of my insurance card. Yet when I got to the clinic I still had to present my insurance card at reception, wasting more time. The gentleman who administered my covid test was nice enough and was gentle with the nasal swab. I was extremely annoyed that the actual dr couldn’t be bothered to even open the door enough to come in... he barely stuck his head in the door/room. I’ve never met a dr who was ‘afraid’ to meet with a patient. This is not how a medical professional should be.

Massapequa Park COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Massapequa Park?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Massapequa Park?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Massapequa Park-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Massapequa Park?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Massapequa Park including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Massapequa Park?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Massapequa Park-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Massapequa Park?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Massapequa Park are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Massapequa Park?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Massapequa Park?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
