My daughter woke up with an earache, I couldn't get an appointment with my pediatrician. I had a 4 pm appointment and was taken on time. The attending pediatrician was great :)

I was able to choose a Quest lab location and schedule an appointment. Check in was easy, and I only needed to provide my name and DOB. They were able to locate my order in their system. They were already aware that my labs were paid for prior to the appointment. I had my labs done on a Wednesday, and I received my results by Saturday. Great experience.

A great experience for something I had a lot of anxiety about. Had no wait time or issues at the testing center/lab. Had blood drawn at 3pm and had results by email at 9am the next morning.

Sparkling Clean

So thank GOD they were open Sunday evening during the Bills game as I had to get 9 stiches and they were all awesome. From the front desk staff to the nurse to the PA who again thank god was there to stich me up so I did not have to go sit in a nightmare hospital emergency room as I would probably would still be there or have bled to death. Bottom line is I was in and out in 40 minutes and was able to finish watching the agony of defeat at home with a cold beer and finish my pizza- just watch out for the rocker pizza blade cutters- they are sharp as hell !!

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

Just amazing was seen at my appointed time, process so easy, nurse came to the car, so very pleasant for all the hard work these frontline workers are doing..Covid testing of my 4 year old took just 1 minute!

The provider that performed our Covid test was so friendly and sweet. I was prepared for this to be a very unpleasant experience for my toddler, but it wasn’t bad at all. They came out within minutes of us checking in and even stayed to answer a few questions I had.

We had a COVID test. The nurse was polite and explained each step to the girls. She went over the process with us several times. Everyone from booking to the final process was polite and helpful.

We pulled up, called the office was told which parking spot to wait in and within 5 minutes got our covid test completed. My son was explained what would happen and everything was done professionally and calmly. It was such a pleasant visit!

- Verified patient on 10/25

We had such a great experience here tonight. It was almost closing time, and my daughter was a walk-in. We did not need an office visit, only the PCR test. I panicked a bit when I saw that we were the 16th ones in line, considering she's young and it was almost 9:00 p.m. . However, within 5 minutes, I received a text from Christine, stating that she found our script and chart, and we should be good to get our swab in the triage room or covid test parking spots. Everything moved along seamlessly after that, and the longest portion of the wait was just to give our address and insurance information. Despite how many visibly sick children were in the waiting room, and how impatient some of them were getting, the staff remained friendly and helpful the entire time. I am so grateful for their help, especially knowing how burnt out they must be at this point. We didn't feel an ounce of that ❤️. Thank you all!!

- Verified patient on 11/10

My good friend recommended you highly and she was right. Comfortable, welcoming, clean waiting room, quick check-in, friendly staff. My 11 year old son was nervous to get his Covid test. The provider was friendly, kind, and made him feel much more at ease. She was also very quick. We did not have much of a wait beforehand. An excellent overall experience! I’ll be recommending you as well and we would happily return should we need your services.

- Verified patient on 10/2

The young attendant at the front desk was so kind and amazing under the stress of a full waiting room. He checked us in and we no sooner pulled into a spot for the covid test and the technician was ready to help! He was gentle and my son couldn’t believe how easy it all went!! Thank you!! You are all amazing!

- Verified patient on 11/16

The provider that helped us was a saint today! My daughter has special needs and doesn’t do well with surprises- a Covid test was not in her plan and she gave us a run for our money. The provider was SO patient! Thank you!

- Verified patient on 11/1

The staff at the East Amherst location is friendly, welcoming, and wonderful with children. We came for a COVID test, and aside from our wait time (due to increased case load for them), the experience couldn't have been easier or better for my son.

- Verified patient on 10/4

Had to wait a bit, but outstanding care as always. Highly recommend. My pediatrician was not able to see us for four days for a covid test for my son to return to school. You were able to help and with a negative test he can return in two days. Thank you! You save my vacation time at work and my son can get back to school!

The person (not sure if it was an MA or RN) who took my sons weight, the pulse ox, temp and completed nasal swab for Covid testing could have had a bit better bed side manner. He did not advise me or my son what he was going to do before he did it. Basically came up from behind him grabbed his finger and put the pulse ox on. He did the same w the Covid test. It seemed a bit aggressive snd just very robotic. Mind you my son is 2. I realize his age and communication skills. but at least let me know. Or maybe engage w him for a second before basically sneaking up from behind and sticking a cotton swab up his nose? I guess I expected a little more compassion from a pediatric facility. This would not happen to an adult when being seen in a medical facility. It should not happen to children either. The MD we saw was very kind and had much better bedside manner.

This was my first time getting a covid test, I was very nervous and the nurse that takes your vitals calmed me down so much and reassured me everything was going to be okay. He was a tall male, loved him!

- Verified patient on 3/23

From the time we walked in I felt completely comfortable. The receptionist was awesome welcoming and efficient. The nurse who administered covid test was friendly and very good with my daughter and nurse was also great the np was patient and kind. Made sure we were well taken care of. Even gave us 2 freezie pops :) Our Peds office couldn’t get her in today so it’s nice to know we have a place that can see her in case this happens again. The facility was super clean and it’s obvious that this is a great place for kids to get treatment. Would definitely recommend Peds urgent care. Thanks for everything ladies. Most of all treating my baby :)

My daughter is autistic and has other special needs. She came in for a covid test today, very scared. The nurse was amazing, she was patient and made the experience so quick! This is huge for a child that has doctors after doctors poking her often. It was a short experience but it made al the difference.

- Verified patient on 11/16

The person who did the covid testing on my kids was super friendly and kept them calm through the whole thing. Only complaint was parking was a bit confusing, but lady on the phone was calm and helpful. Would recommend to others

- Verified patient on 12/16

The nurse who was doing outdoor PCR tests was AMAZING! She had literally been running in and out of the building for 12 hours administering covid tests when we saw her, and she was smiling, friendly, and extremely good with my child. So grateful for her warmth and compassion during a stressful time. She was working at 8 pm on Thursday, September 30th. I hope she can be identified and praised for her tremendous job.

- Verified patient on 10/1

My son is terrified of doctor visits so I wasn't expecting a great experience when we went to get his Covid test done. We were able to stay in the car for the tests (both kids were tested together), we had a very short wait time, and the person administering the swab was extremely pleasant and patient. We had a phenomenal experience and I wouldn't hesitate to go back.

- Verified patient on 10/1

Both of my children needed a Covid test to go back to school. Scheduling was easy and done online. We parked in the designated spot and a staff member came out to swab both kids’. It was very easy and quick (I think we were there less than 5 minutes) and my 6 year old son said “she was very cute” about the nurse or tech who took the swab. She was excellent with handling both kids. Would definitely recommend the clinic!

- Verified patient on 9/29

I thought COVID testing was going to be a pain between wait times and figuring staff would be fatigued from working through this pandemic. I was so happy with this experience. Everyone I encountered either by phone or in person was extremely friendly, check in was a breeze, and service was swift also with friendliness. Tha ks for making a stressful situation much easier.

We have been to this facility several times. The doctor who treated Henry has treated us before. She always does an excellent job and has a great bedside manner. My son was a little nervous to get the covid test, but the doctor we saw made him feel comfortable and even made him laugh. We are very happy his test came back negative.

Williamsville COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Williamsville?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Williamsville?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Williamsville-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Williamsville?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Williamsville including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Williamsville?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Williamsville-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Williamsville?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Williamsville are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Williamsville?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Williamsville?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
