I’ve had a fever for a few days and was struggling with dehydration. I was able to schedule the same day and waited for all of three minutes. From check in to each staff member to the NP everyone was wonderful. They ran tests and did their due diligence to discover what could be going on with me. Once I ran my tests, I went over and got an IV to assist with the dehydration. I left feeling much better and with peace of mind. I would recommend Neu Med urgent care and IV.

It was very easy to book an appointment online. There was no wait, just a few forms to fill out. The nurse practitioner was knowledgeable and friendly. I got the care I needed, and prescriptions were sent to my pharmacy. I would use them again for urgent care.

I am a person who regularly receives B12 and vitamin shots as well as IV infusions. I had the worst experience this week when it was my first time visiting neumed modern urgent care. The doctor was very rude, did not have a gentle hand, after stabbing me three times to get my bulging vein,  they realize Metal stand that holds the IV bag is broken and that it's the only one in the facility. I have to get up from previously laying down on the table and walk all the way through their facility in pain after being stuck three times because they have one stand to hold an IV bag, don't make the mistake of going here. My arm still hurts and I didn't feel much of a difference.

My foot was swollen due to a fracture - over 5 weeks now, not everything documented 1st by my PCP, Urgent Care and the ER. Instead of an x-ray, I was referred to the ER. I was finally correctly diagnosed on yesterday by a "floating" physician.

I was unable to schedule my appointment online, having issues with my phone and Internet - Miss Ronnie at the front desk is so very kind and helpful, she got me checked in right away! The nurse I saw today is also very kind and compassionate, I'm sorry I didn't get her name - she gave an injection, it didn't hurt - she did a great job. The doctor I saw today is also very kind and compassionate, he listened to all my issues and also offered to help me find a PCP for moving forward. I tested positive for the flu and am feeling horrible. Your staff is so awesome, they really care about the patients they are seeing and we can tell! Thank you for reading my review, and please thank your staff for me again!!

Houston HIV Testing

Who should get tested for HIVs?

According to the CDC, everyone aged 13 to 64 should get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health care. However, those with certain risk factors should get tested more often. These risk factors include having unprotected sex, having multiple partners, being a man who has sex with men, having ever injected drugs, and having exchanged sex for drugs or money. If you live in Houston or nearby areas like West University Place, Bellaire, Jacinto City, Galena Park, or South Houston, it's recommended to get tested regularly due to the higher prevalence of HIV in these areas.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for HIV is crucial for both treatment and prevention. Early diagnosis of HIV allows for prompt treatment, which can slow the progression of the disease and improve longevity and quality of life. Additionally, knowing your HIV status can help prevent the spread of the virus to others. In Houston, where HIV rates are higher than the national average, getting tested is an essential step in controlling the spread of the virus.

HIV testing options in Houston, TX:

Urgent care and walk-in clinics

Urgent care and walk-in clinics offer convenient, same-day HIV testing. These facilities often have shorter wait times and extended hours compared to traditional healthcare providers. In Houston, Memorial Hermann-Gohealth Urgent Care and AFC Urgent Care are excellent options for quick and reliable HIV testing. You can book same-day and next-day appointments at these clinics through Solv’s website and mobile app.

Primary care providers

Primary care providers also offer HIV testing. If you have a regular doctor, they can order an HIV test during a routine visit. This option may be more comfortable for some people, as it involves a healthcare provider with whom they already have a relationship.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or with limited financial resources, free STD testing and community health centers are available in Houston. These centers provide confidential testing and often offer additional resources for those diagnosed with HIV.

At-home testing

At-home HIV testing kits are another option. These kits allow you to collect a sample at home and send it to a lab for testing. This option offers privacy and convenience, but it's important to follow up with a healthcare provider if you test positive.

Prevalence of HIVs in Houston

Houston, located in Harris County, has a higher prevalence of HIV compared to other cities in Texas and the United States as a whole. According to the CDC, Harris County had one of the highest rates of HIV diagnoses in Texas in recent years. Compared to nearby counties like Hill County, Calcasieu Parish, Lafayette Parish, Vermilion Parish, and Acadia Parish, Harris County has a significantly higher rate of HIV.

Risk factors related to HIVs in Houston

Several factors contribute to the high prevalence of HIV in Houston. These include high rates of unprotected sex, drug use, and a lack of regular testing. Additionally, socioeconomic factors such as poverty and lack of access to healthcare contribute to the spread of HIV.

Other STDs in Houston

In addition to HIV, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, and hepatitis are also prevalent in Houston. Like HIV, these STDs can be asymptomatic, meaning they often go undetected and untreated, leading to further spread. Regular testing for all STDs is recommended for sexually active individuals in Houston.

HIV Test FAQs

  • Who should get an HIV test?

Everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 should take an HIV test at least once in their lives. Some people are more likely to get HIV and should be tested more regularly. Those who have had sex with an HIV-positive partner, those who inject drugs, sexually active gay men, and those who have unprotected sex are all included. You should get checked every 6-12 months if you have any of these risk factors.

  • How do they test for HIV?

Antibodies created by your body in reaction to the virus are examined in HIV tests. A blood test or a sample of cells obtained from the inside of the cheek can be used to do this. After that, the sample is transported to a lab, where a technician will look for antibodies.

  • How long should I wait to get an HIV test?

It can take a long time for your body to build enough antibodies for an HIV test to detect the illness if you become sick. It may take 3-12 weeks for your blood to contain adequate antibodies. Even if you have HIV, you could have a negative test result during this time.

  • How long will I have to wait for HIV test results in Houston?

Because the sample must be sent to a laboratory for investigation, most HIV test results might take anywhere from a few days to several weeks. On the other hand, some Houston clinics or doctor's offices may offer rapid HIV testing, which can deliver a diagnosis in as little as 20 minutes. Rapid HIV testing involve a little sample of blood or fluid obtained from the mouth. You'll need a follow-up blood test to confirm the diagnosis if a fast test comes up positive.

  • How much does an HIV test cost?

A variety of factors influence the cost of an HIV test, including the type of test you receive, the location where you are tested, and whether or not you have health insurance. HIV testing may be provided for free or at a low cost by some clinics or health authorities. If you're a college student, you might be able to get free HIV tests through your school.

  • Is HIV testing covered by my insurance?

The majority of insurance coverage cover HIV testing. The Affordable Care Act mandates that all new health plans provide free HIV testing for those aged 15 to 65. If you have any doubts about what is covered under your individual health plan, you can always call your insurance company or go to their website.

  • Where can I get an HIV test in Houston?

Many Houston health clinics, doctor's offices, and the health department offer HIV testing. Some pharmacies with on-site clinics may also be able to give HIV testing. Even though some clinics accept walk-in appointments, making an appointment ahead of time will save you time and ensure that you receive your test on the same day.

  • Can I get a same-day appointment for HIV testing?

Yes, Solv offers same-day and next-day HIV testing appointments. We collaborate with thousands of healthcare providers across the country to make it easier for everyone to access the medical assistance they require quickly and conveniently. On our website, you can choose a physician near you and make an appointment right now.

Fill out the form to arrange an appointment at a time and location that is convenient for you. Make certain that your appointment is for "HIV testing."

  • Can I test myself for HIV at home?

Although there are several home HIV tests available, not all of them are accurate or FDA-approved. For a home test, you'll need a swab from the inside of your mouth or a blood sample taken with a finger pricker. If you get a positive result on a home HIV test, you should see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis and start treatment.
