Urgent care
I had to pay a visit the day after Thanksgiving. They were busy, but they were very open and up front about wait times. You could tell they were getting through the wait efficiently. The girl at the front desk was very friendly, nice and again, up front and honest. Once I was back to see the doctor they had me checked and out the building super fast. Recommending to call ahead.

Urgent care
Thank you to the wonderful staff that took care of me, Javier and Mercedes. I had a horrible experience at this urgent care last year and said I would never go back but I had to do a drug test for a new employer when I went in the front desk attendant was so kind ( unlike the past) she scheduled me for another appointment right away due to being ill. Everyone was kind and respectful and willing to help me, they showed outstanding compassion and willingness to help me resolve being ill instead of sending me away. I had heard many complaints about this urgent care so my goal is to tell people how wonderful they all had been

Urgent care
I came in with a lumbar and right leg pain. My only issue was checking in.  That fact that my information your system requires every Urgent care visit was not stored.  Like insurance information, drivers license from my visit last month.  Because I was in so much pain and barely able to walk I did not grab my wallet or phone.  So my spouse had to go back home and get them.  The back staff I saw was amazing, caring and very professional.  I have been a regular patient at that office before you bought Dr Wilner out.  You website also says that some of your staff is mot covered by UHC but the practice is listed on my UHC website as being in network.  You should also correct that.

Doctor was gentle & thorough in exam and in questioning about mysterious eye pain that struck me immediately after rising in morning. He ruled out all the obvious scary possibilities, made suggestions for coping, and offered a prescription for alleviating discomfort; also urged me to call for a specialist referral if the pain continued. In several hours the pain subsided, so does remain a mystery. I recommend this provider.

Denver Urgent Care

What is urgent care?

Urgent care is a category of walk-in care in a dedicated medical facility outside of a traditional emergency room. Urgent care centers primarily treat injuries or illnesses requiring immediate care but aren't serious enough to require an ER visit. These centers are equipped to handle non-life-threatening situations and offer extended hours, making them a convenient option for those who need immediate attention for unexpected health issues.

Common services and reasons for visit

Urgent care centers in Denver, CO, offer a wide range of services to cater to the immediate healthcare needs of the community. Here are some of the common services and reasons why people visit urgent care:

  • Minor fractures and sprains: Urgent care centers are equipped to handle minor bone fractures and sprains, providing immediate relief and care.
  • Respiratory infections: Conditions like bronchitis, pneumonia, and other respiratory infections can be treated at urgent care centers.
  • Cuts and burns: Minor cuts, burns, and other wounds can be treated and dressed at urgent care facilities.
  • Seasonal allergies: Urgent care centers can provide immediate relief for seasonal allergies and related conditions.
  • Stomach ailments: Issues like food poisoning, stomach flu, and other gastrointestinal problems can be addressed at urgent care centers.

Types of healthcare providers

At an urgent care center, you'll encounter a variety of healthcare providers, each with a specific role and set of responsibilities. Here are some of the healthcare providers you might meet:

  • Physicians: These are medical doctors who oversee patient care, diagnose illnesses, and prescribe treatments. They typically have extensive education and training, including a medical degree and residency.
  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs): NPs are registered nurses with advanced training and education. They can diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medication, and may serve as a patient's primary healthcare provider.
  • Physician Assistants (PAs): PAs are medical professionals who diagnose illnesses, develop and manage treatment plans, prescribe medications, and often serve as a patient's principal healthcare provider. They practice medicine under the supervision of physicians and surgeons.
  • Registered Nurses (RNs): RNs provide and coordinate patient care, educate patients about various health conditions, and provide advice and emotional support to patients and their families. They work closely with doctors and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Medical Assistants (MAs): MAs handle administrative and clinical tasks in healthcare facilities. They may assist with procedures, administer injections, and make sure the clinic runs smoothly.

When to go to an urgent care

Urgent care centers are an excellent option for non-life-threatening health issues that require immediate attention. These can include minor fractures, sprains, burns, cuts, and infections. Urgent care centers are also suitable for treating common illnesses such as flu, fever, earaches, and sore throats. They also provide services such as lab tests, X-rays, and vaccinations. It's important to remember that urgent care is not a substitute for emergency care. If you're experiencing severe chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding, or signs of stroke, you should call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.

Urgent care vs emergency room (ER)

While both urgent care centers and emergency rooms provide immediate care, they are designed to treat different levels of medical issues. Urgent care centers are equipped to handle non-life-threatening conditions that require prompt attention. On the other hand, emergency rooms are designed to treat severe and life-threatening conditions. ERs are open 24/7 and have the resources to handle serious injuries and illnesses. It's also important to note that the cost of treatment at an ER is typically much higher than at an urgent care center.

Urgent care vs primary care

Primary care physicians are the first point of contact for most healthcare needs. They provide preventive care, treat common illnesses, and manage chronic conditions. However, they usually require appointments and may not be available for immediate care. Urgent care centers, on the other hand, are walk-in clinics that provide immediate care for non-life-threatening conditions. They have extended hours, including evenings and weekends, making them a convenient option when you need care outside of regular office hours or cannot wait for an appointment with your primary care physician.

Urgent care vs retail clinic

Retail clinics, often found in pharmacies or supermarkets, provide care for minor illnesses and preventive services. They are typically staffed by nurse practitioners or physician assistants and are a convenient option for simple health needs. However, they are not equipped to handle more complex conditions or injuries. Urgent care centers have a broader scope of services and can treat a wider range of conditions. They are staffed by physicians and can provide more advanced treatments such as minor surgeries, X-rays, and lab tests.

Preparing for Your Visit

  • Your ID and insurance card, if you have one.
  • A list of any medications you're currently taking, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements.
  • Details about your medical history and any current symptoms you're experiencing.
  • Payment for any potential out-of-pocket costs.

During Your Visit

During your visit, you'll be seen by a healthcare provider who will assess your condition, provide treatment, and may order further tests if necessary. Here's what you can expect:

Check-in and Waiting

Upon arrival, you'll check in at the front desk. While waiting times can vary, urgent care centers typically have shorter waits than emergency rooms.

Examination and Treatment

Your healthcare provider will ask about your symptoms and medical history, perform a physical examination, and provide treatment as necessary. They may also order tests such as blood work or X-rays.

Follow-up Care and Communication

After your visit, you may need to schedule a follow-up appointment, particularly if your healthcare provider has ordered tests. You'll also receive instructions for any necessary home care or medications. If you have any questions or concerns after your visit, don't hesitate to reach out to the clinic.

Cost and Insurance Details

Urgent care visits are typically more affordable than emergency room visits. The average out-of-pocket cost for basic care at an urgent care center ranges from $71-125, with additional costs for services like shots, X-rays, and labs. • What is a walk-in clinic?

A walk-in clinic is a type of healthcare facility that provides medical care to patients without the need for an appointment. They cater to non-emergent health issues, offering a convenient option for accessible medical attention. Walk-in clinics vary from free services provided by government, charity, or foundation-operated facilities to private clinics with affordable rates, serving as a practical alternative for minor illnesses and injuries outside of traditional doctor's offices and emergency rooms.
