Cory was amazing. My only major concern was that I identified that my daughter had a medication allergy and the APRN who saw us prescribed the one she was allergic to (which I picked up at the pharmacy and paid for) and I had to call back and get a different one. If they document allergies, that should not be ignored when prescribing.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I have appointment at 10:15 for covid test required by my job because I traveled internationally. I waited one hour ,people after me were seen and the explanation was no room is available. I'm very upset .I left and scheduled appointment with CVS.

Been here multiple times for covid testing and staff is super friendly and service is quick!

Terrific care. Phoebe was so caring to my son who was not comfortable with the COVID test, but she was gentle and made him relax and he got through it like a champ, thanks to her.

Went for COVID test. Everyone was amazing and got results within a few hours!

- Verified patient on 3/19

My daughter and I went in for a covid test and the staff was helpful on what we needed to know and very nice to us.

- Verified patient on 12/29

It was a great in-house experience! Advertised 24-hour test results for a COVID test, but the reality is 7-10 days.

- Verified patient on 11/25

Had to have covid test cuz I had been exposed

- Verified patient on 3/2

Went because sick and wanted covid test as described when I made appointment. Chastised by staff after they brought me in for appointment because I wasn’t supposed to enter if I was experiencing symptoms. I advised that’s the reason given for appointment so staff should I advise that in advance. Dr was condescending and he down played my being sick. Was advised covid test results would be back in 24-36 hours. Been almost 48 and no results yet. Testing expensive when you can get free test elsewhere. Charge you $150 for test and $125 for office visit.

- Verified patient on 8/9

My wife and I called very late in the day for a rapid Covid test. The staff was very accommodating and got us both in and the results back by early evening enabling us to return to work the following day. Everything about our visit was two thumbs up!!! Thanks to everyone at the Cromwell facility.

- Verified patient on 9/10

Very caring place. Quick results on Covid tests- PCR. Go here - you’ll love them too.

- Verified patient on 1/3

I waited quite awhile due to covid testing even after having a appointment. They said they were backed up. Everything else was great, clean, felt safe, testing was quick.

- Verified patient on 12/7

Arrived @ 7:30 am for covid test called tel no as instructed on door. Phone rang fo 1 hr straight. This was happening to 10/ 15 other people also waiting everyone asking what the heck . Then people starting walking inside. I eventually also went inside with my phone still ringing. Gal at desk took my name & tel no & told me to continue to wait outside ( I had already been out side for hour& half. .I was starting to think I was going to leave when I got call from that point on it went well. Everyone was very professional place very clean . Gal that administered test very nice & informative. Didn't take to long to recv results. PA that gave me my results sat ,& explained everything . She wss excellent she took her time & asking if I had any questions . Thank God my test was negative. Except for the terriable time trying to register to have test everything else went well

- Verified patient on 11/18

I had an appointment for a covid test and arrived 10 minutes before my appointment time. Checked in and the list had 13 people ahead of me. No contact for about 45 minutes. My test was not done until 1hour and 10 minutes after my scheduled time. Seems there was no order of people being taken. A car pulled up about 30 minutes after me but was tested well before I was. The nurse/technician who performed the test was extremely professional but the system of keeping track of who is who and timing is horrible. In the future if I need these services I would try to go first thing in the morning in the hopes that they would not be backed up. I understand with the pandemic everyone is overwhelmed but the wait is shorter at clinics where you just show up and wait- I had hoped with an appointment scheduled it would have gone more smoothly.

- Verified patient on 11/20

I had the best experience - I am still shocked! I went in expecting long lines and wait times even though I booked an appt online in advance for the rapid covid test. I was pleasantly surprised. This place is top notch. They even took me in ahead of time. A very nice person checked me in which took 1 minute as we fill out paperwork in advance online. I was immediately walked to a private room. 1 minute later the person came in to administer the test. 3 minutes after that a lovely doctor came in. She was so nice, asked me my reason for the test ( new baby in family) and even advised that both my daughter and I take multi-vitamins. I was asked to come back in an hour for the results. I went for a walk and came back and results were handed to me right away. There was ample parking though one can also park right next store at large bowling alley lot. I highly recommend this urgent care facility.

- Verified patient on 11/15

Maybe not the fault of the facility but 45 minute wait for a COVID test appointment. I had previously uploaded all of my identification and insurance info yet had to do it all over again upon arrival. Process seemed like everyone was doing it for the first time. Getting a COVID test or a vaccine at this point should be a lot easier than this.

- Verified patient on 8/27

This was my second visit this week. Originally, I was there for a Covid test on Tuesday due to exposure at work. This time I was there for another Covid test but I had developed symptoms. While I waited a long time, it was due to the fact that they were helping so many patients & then cleaning the rooms in between. I did not see one staff member sitting idle the entire time I was there. I received exceptional care first from the nurse & then the practitioner. They were kind, caring & thorough. Sometimes when you go to a facility & there are so many people waiting staff will have a tendency to rush you out. I did not feel that way at all. If I could I would make the practioner I saw my primary care doctor because I have not been allowed to set foot in my doctor’s office since early February ***.

- Verified patient on 3/14

Don’t make your staff have scheduled Covid test appointments every 10 minutes (On top of walkins) there’s no way they can turn a patient out every 10 mins. all it does is cause chaos amongst your staff and create 1.5hr wait for patients. This could also lead to potential errors in testing. They’re overworked I know all the company thinks about is profits and sees $$$ but your creating an unsafe environment etc. I could draft a much better letter regarding this I just don’t feel like wasting my time

- Verified patient on 10/10

I'd did not have a good experience. The staff seemed like they did not want to be there and I left before getting my covid test

- Verified patient on 8/27

Friendly staff, very attentive, the PA and MA Listened to what I was experiencing, a Covid test and strep test were taken. The Medical Assistant explained both tests prior to and during and after. The provider suggested Mucinex, Covid test was negative. I have been there before and I will continue to go there

Cromwell COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Cromwell?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Cromwell?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Cromwell-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Cromwell?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Cromwell including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Cromwell?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Cromwell-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Cromwell?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Cromwell are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Cromwell?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Cromwell?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
