Med assistant was friendly and compassionate. Man that actually treated me was brief and seemed in a hurry. Seemed annoyed that he was called in. Rest of the visit was very good.

After a couple of days of visiting a hospital and not feeling well i decided to go into this walk in clinic. Right away i could tell the people and staff at this clinic really cared about their patients and showed concerned and took proper care of me while in their care. One staff member was supposed to leave at 5pm and she stood over her shift to make sure I was healthy enough to leave on my own even called the next morning to make sure i was doing well something the hospital didn't even do. I highly recommend that if you are looking to go somewhere where you are ill to give this place a shot you will not be disappointed.

I brought my son in really disappointed after he cut his hand on a metal sign. Every single staff person I came in contact with was extremely helpful, nice and accommodating. The provider was awesome. He attended to us quickly and had us out in 20 minutes. I appreciate everyone here. Keep up the great work.

Cory was amazing. My only major concern was that I identified that my daughter had a medication allergy and the APRN who saw us prescribed the one she was allergic to (which I picked up at the pharmacy and paid for) and I had to call back and get a different one. If they document allergies, that should not be ignored when prescribing.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I went for a COVID test. I scheduled online & checked in online upon arrival. I wish that clearer instructions were provided upon check in telling you whether you should wait in your car or go into the office after checking in. Following my test I was told to come back in an hour for the results, but then I received an email with the link to access the patient portal to view the results online. Just wish there was less confusion on their part and clearer instructions.

This is my third COVID test appointment at this facility and the only issue I have is with the receptionist who sits at the front desk when you walk in. I do not know her name but she is EXTREMELY LOUD and as soon as you walk in she screams “CAN I HELP YOU?!” For one, I don’t like to be yelled at. Number two, whatever she is saying to me is not confidential at all. Whoever is in the waiting room can hear our entire conversation because she’s so loud. She needs to lower her voice and be more considerate of the people around her. Her greeting could be more gentle and respectful.

This was my second visit this week. Originally, I was there for a Covid test on Tuesday due to exposure at work. This time I was there for another Covid test but I had developed symptoms. While I waited a long time, it was due to the fact that they were helping so many patients & then cleaning the rooms in between. I did not see one staff member sitting idle the entire time I was there. I received exceptional care first from the nurse & then the practitioner. They were kind, caring & thorough. Sometimes when you go to a facility & there are so many people waiting staff will have a tendency to rush you out. I did not feel that way at all. If I could I would make the practioner I saw my primary care doctor because I have not been allowed to set foot in my doctor’s office since early February ***.

Besides the wait and some misinformation. I think the process for COVID testing worked. Everyone who is a part of the Clinic team should know your policy on COVID test....I was originally told it’s on a walk in, first come first serve basis....only to later be told that clients should be at clinic at 06:00 am to sign in ....with a wait period...had to register online. Only 100 COVID tests would be issued on each day.....once the client’s name is signed on clipboard and the protocol is followed, everything progressed smoothly.

I had the best experience - I am still shocked! I went in expecting long lines and wait times even though I booked an appt online in advance for the rapid covid test. I was pleasantly surprised. This place is top notch. They even took me in ahead of time. A very nice person checked me in which took 1 minute as we fill out paperwork in advance online. I was immediately walked to a private room. 1 minute later the person came in to administer the test. 3 minutes after that a lovely doctor came in. She was so nice, asked me my reason for the test ( new baby in family) and even advised that both my daughter and I take multi-vitamins. I was asked to come back in an hour for the results. I went for a walk and came back and results were handed to me right away. There was ample parking though one can also park right next store at large bowling alley lot. I highly recommend this urgent care facility.

Arrived @ 7:30 am for covid test called tel no as instructed on door. Phone rang fo 1 hr straight. This was happening to 10/ 15 other people also waiting everyone asking what the heck . Then people starting walking inside. I eventually also went inside with my phone still ringing. Gal at desk took my name & tel no & told me to continue to wait outside ( I had already been out side for hour& half. .I was starting to think I was going to leave when I got call from that point on it went well. Everyone was very professional place very clean . Gal that administered test very nice & informative. Didn't take to long to recv results. PA that gave me my results sat ,& explained everything . She wss excellent she took her time & asking if I had any questions . Thank God my test was negative. Except for the terriable time trying to register to have test everything else went well

Everything was great about my experience up until i was given my results of a covid test and the doctor began to berate me with questions about vaccination and why i was against it. As a medical professional, i would expect a bit more professionalism. I came in for a covid test, not a lecture on how my life decisions are wrong in his eyes. Also, why was the doctor trying to perform a physical when that had nothing to do with my appointment? Seems like you have a rogue doctor trying to be a hero on your staff..

I was able to easily book an appointment online 15 hours in advance for a rapid covid test. A staff member called to confirm with a positive attitude. I had to wait comfortably in my car for only 20 minutes after I checked-in. The nurse was more than gentle when swabbing my nose. I experience high anxiety during covid swabbing along with pain as they shove the swab as far as they can in my nose. But with Physician One Urgent Care, I experienced no pain and anxiety with respect for my nose. I wish I could always use PhysicianOne every time when I need a covid test but I am only visiting Connecticut. This was the quickest in-and-out covid test. This place deserves more than five stars! Thank you for such a quick and wonderful experience!

Covid test was easy to schedule on the Solv app. You can also use the app to complete all paperwork (insurance, medical history, etc.) before you get there, so the experience at the actual clinic is very efficient. I've used the Unionville clinic for Covid tests twice now. You drive up, stay in your car, and they come find you relatively quickly. I was in and out of there in about 10 minutes, you never leave your car, and had my PCR results the next day. Smooth operation.

- Verified patient on 3/1

The staff was friendly and accommodating. The wait time was less than 10 minutes. However, I did not appreciate the moral lecture from the doctor after receiving a positive Covid test. In the future, please remind your doctors to keep the discussion about morality out of the exam room. I am responsible for my friends and family not of those who choose of their own free will to not get vaxxed or those who are unable to be vaxxed because of their health circumstances.

Went 6 times in past 24 hours To try to get appointment for COVID test. Chaotic procedure, changing format to get an appointment. Did not feel comfortable with Social distancing inside and outside facility. More line control needed. Need large sign to direct people Who need Covid Testing to go to website which was better than in person registration Procedure Once finally had appointment it was fine PA very nice. Have been there several times previously for other reasons. Need one Additional Desk person to answer Questions manage checkinS. Maybe separate patients there for other reasons And not symptomatic from Covid symptom test patients . Appreciate that you are doing rapid testing.

Shelton staff is superior for caring and commitment to patient's needs. They are a blessing for this area. Took 2 covid tests here (one + and one - after hospitalization). Met with PA to discuss need for rescue inhaler and nasal meds (my primary never responded to my urgent call for help breathing/asthma attack). My family feels safe using this emergency center - exceptional hours and professionalism. Wait is reasonable when so busy! Thank You for making this a reliable service in a time of crisis. BB

- Verified patient on 3/9

Front desk personnel was friendly and knowledgeable. Wait time was a reasonable amount of time considering the amount of people waiting to be seen. Once called in, both my husband and I were explained what the covid test involved. We both were tested and put in a waiting room. We told our wait time would be approximately 15 minutes. It was longer than time quoted but again it was very busy. The doctor apologized for the added wait time and that it was exceptionally busy. The facility was clean and staff very pleasant. Would definitely return if necessary!!

- Verified patient on 10/8

I was very upset to hear when my daughter got the covid test done we couldn’t wait in the car afterwards. I did not like the fact of waiting in that small room for a hour wondering what kind of sickness the person had in there before us . It really was upsetting. Next time I have to go I will insist that I wait outside after. Because now we are negative, but could have caught something being in that room. I felt claustrophobic waiting and thinking what if?

- Verified patient on 4/1

Staff members were kind. Quality of care recieved was efficient and adequate. Wait time was absurd. I checked in 20 minutes before my son's scheduled appointment and wasn't seen until 45 minutes after my scheduled appointment time. That was OVER AN HOUR LONG WAIT. If we were walk ins, that would make sense to me, but this was a scheduled appointment. Waiting for over an hour with a five year old and an infant is quite difficult, and this is not the first time I've had a long wait with Physician One. I'll be trying out different locations for covid tests in the future.

- Verified patient on 9/20

I had an appointment for a covid test and arrived 10 minutes before my appointment time. Checked in and the list had 13 people ahead of me. No contact for about 45 minutes. My test was not done until 1hour and 10 minutes after my scheduled time. Seems there was no order of people being taken. A car pulled up about 30 minutes after me but was tested well before I was. The nurse/technician who performed the test was extremely professional but the system of keeping track of who is who and timing is horrible. In the future if I need these services I would try to go first thing in the morning in the hopes that they would not be backed up. I understand with the pandemic everyone is overwhelmed but the wait is shorter at clinics where you just show up and wait- I had hoped with an appointment scheduled it would have gone more smoothly.

I went in for a strep and COVID test and they were incredibly quick and kind. There was no wait when I used Solv to pre-book a time, and the test results were rapid. This is the first urgent care clinic that I’ve been to that has really listened to me. They prescribed antibiotics without doing a culture for strep (I have a history of negative rapid strep tests but positive cultures and it sucks having to be miserable to 2-5 more days to find out I do in fact have strep). Overall they really paid attention to me and my concerns. I didn’t even know this clinic existed but now that I do that’s where I’ll go for all of my urgent care needs!

- Verified patient on 1/18

Wait time was super long but they had such a high patient volume with the rapid COVID testing, which was the reason for my visit. This isn’t really a fault to them. It’s one of the only walk-in clinics for Covid testing. But I was impressed with how organized it was. I liked how you could track how many people were ahead of you. The MD wasn’t too friendly but the medical assistant was sweet and kind. The facility appeared clean and they were on top of maintaining social distance.

- Verified patient on 10/30

The staff was excellent. There were a lot of people, and I'm sure some folks aren't cooperative or understanding. They were patient and worked quickly to get everyone registered. The wait time wasn't bad, but I wish you would put something on your website that you can't do appointments for Covid testing on the website. I made an appt and waited in the parking lot for about 15 mins, and I could have signed up earlier. But it was an excellent 1st experience at your practice. I will be sure to let others know. As a teacher, I have to get tested if I have symptoms, so it's possible that this visit won't be my last!!

- Verified patient on 9/2

I had to give five stars because basically overall every time I go to Physician one, I have no problem.I would recommend, and I have already to friends,to go to Physician one.The person that came in to give me the test she, said to me nothing is free, Covid testing is not free .Covid testing is supposed to be for free, I wasn’t too crazy about her personality , I was asking her questions about the PCR that she said she was giving me and it seem like she was getting annoyed to answer questions. I didn’t understand right away .I am a school bus driver, you hear on the news testing is free. The Women ,that gave me the test I’ve never seen her there before and I didn’t get her name.

Rocky Hill COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Rocky Hill?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Rocky Hill?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Rocky Hill-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Rocky Hill?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Rocky Hill including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Rocky Hill?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Rocky Hill-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Rocky Hill?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Rocky Hill are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Rocky Hill?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Rocky Hill?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
