Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I have had to use Summit for multiple reasons, from sports physicals to COVID testing, every single time I have been extremely pleased with the level of care!! The entire staff is friendly and welcoming. The nurses and physicians are very thorough and professional. They also have amazing bedside manner. I will continue to visit Summit for any needs that myself or my family may have!!

I used Summit for a virtual visit in prep for a COVID test. I thought it was convenient, very easy to navigate through the paperwork, and the staff was friendly. Shortly after the virtual visit, someone else called me within 35 minutes to set up my Covid-19 appointment for later in the week. Thus far, I am extremely pleased w the service I received.

- Verified patient on 8/13

I was cut off twice in the virtual appt, even after I downloaded the app and all. Seems a bit ridiculous to have to interview to get a COVID test, but that was the main purpose of the visit. Still waiting on my call to schedule my test.

Audio was poor and the guy seemed confused when I added my kids in for covid test eval. Have done this before with multiple visits set up and they told me then not to bother with separate for the kids and last time it wasn't an issue to do one visit. But he made it work.

- Verified patient on 12/28

They were seriously backed up from a ton of people needing Covid testing. They were kind courteous and efficient. I also felt like I was asked knowledgeable questions to help me get through whatever I’m experiencing as I don’t have my results yet. I’ve already recommended this place twice

- Verified patient on 10/19

This is the second time I have gone because I had to get a Covid test. Everyone is very friendly. The only area I wish was better is waiting to do the video visit. They say you will only have to wait 15 mins. before someone will come on at your appt. time. The first time I waited 45 minutes and yesterday it was over an hour. When we finally got connected, the rest of my appt. went well and they set up a time for me to drive thru for my test. I realize that Covid has made every place booked, but I wish Summit could at least come on while you are waiting for your video call and let you know that you are still in the cue and have not been ignored.

- Verified patient on 12/17

My virtual appt was scheduled the day after my initial request. Carmen was very helpful and answered all of my questions about Covid testing! I received a phone call within an hour after my consultation to schedule my drive-thru test, two days later. Am being told 2-6 days to find out the results. So far the experience has been pleasant & professional.

- Verified patient on 7/19

The nurse I talked to on the phone was fabulous. She told me to head right to the clinic to get the rapid covid test. I did it took me 10 mins to arrive there. And then they told me there were no more openings for the day. I would need to come back tomorrow.

- Verified patient on 8/30

Overall experience was great with online provider. She was very knowledgeable and friendly and answered all our questions. She informed me that I would receive a call the very next day to make an appointment for my covid test. I have yet to receive a call from scheduling

We have used this urgent care facility several times and it’s always been a positive experience. The staff is friendly and professional. This time we needed a same day Covid test for travel. I went in a few days ahead of time and the instructions I was given of how to assure a smooth visit worked like a charm.

- Verified patient on 9/29

I required a quick covid test for travel purposes. It was late and they could have said no based on the hour. Instead the kind people at reception helped me organize an on line visit and a rapid test at the clinic. Very gentle with the swab too. Great people

- Verified patient on 6/10

The virtual visit with Dr. Medura was great. She was professional and caring. My Covid test was ordered and scheduled. I had zero wait time when I arrived for my appointment. I was provided with information about testing results and was finished within 5 minutes. Very efficient and professional staff.

- Verified patient on 1/30

Made appointment for virtual visit for covid testing—was able to book an appointment within 1.5 hours of the request. Not a long wait time once call started. Practitioner was friendly and helpful. Have not had call back to schedule testing yet, but so far everything has been very efficient.

- Verified patient on 12/21

I was desperate to get a rapid Covid test ASAP. My PCP recommended Summit, and I was able to get a virtual appointment the same day I contacted Summit. I spoke to the doctor, who was great, and now I have a test today and one on this coming Sunday. Great customer service and care!!

- Verified patient on 1/7

For my virtual appointment, they were ready for me before my scheduled time which never happens with doctors! The practitioner who did my evaluation was very nice and helpful. They called me immediately after to schedule my covid test and the nurse who called was very prompt and helpful as well. Definitely recommend!

- Verified patient on 8/27

I understand that our current time with covid is unprecedented and it a holiday weekend. But it would be great if patients weren’t scheduled for virtual visits every 5 minutes resulting in an hour and a half wait time. And I now have to wait 72 hours for a covid test. There has to be a way to make this a bit more efficient. The people I spoke with were delightful but I saw the dr for less than one minute and spoke to a nurse for 30 seconds to schedule my test.

- Verified patient on 7/3

I did a virtual visit to get my covid test. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get a same day test with that but I d4ove to the location and waited in my car for the virtual visit. There was a line of about 30 ppl waiting inviting of the building. The site crashed and wouldn't let me log into the visit, but the staff was on.point. They called about 5 minutes after my appt was supposed to occur and got me screened. They told me I didn't have to wait in.line and that someone would com swab me at my car shortly. Overall from arrival to departure the experience took an hour and change. They called me with the results so I didn't have to wait around. Best system for testing efficiency I've seen so far. Those waiting in line hadn't done a virtual visit. I recommend signing up for the virtual visit, saved time and I got to wait in my warm car.

- Verified patient on 1/4

Overall good experience. Some confusion about how it all takes place. For instance, it wasn't clear as to when the actual Covid test would take place after the virtual visit. I wasn't sure if it would be a day after or just afterwards so that needs clarifying. Also, it's been over an hour and I still haven't gotten my results yet for the rapid test.

- Verified patient on 1/22

Went for a covid test the rapid results checked in pulled around back about 10 minutes later nurse came out and swabbed me I waited about 20 minutes and they gave me the results.30 to 40 minutes i was done and on my way.

- Verified patient on 2/13

This was a great experience! I had used the brick and mortar for my daughter recently and had to wait in line at 7 AM for a Covid test timeslot - but I’m on crutches and had the opportunity and enough time to set up a virtual visit to now schedule my test that I need to travel domestically in a few days. Yes there was a little bit of a wait for the zoom link but of course you guys are swamped and taking care of everyone so I expected and did not mind that at all. But once the provider came on she was sweet and professional and it was efficient and got me taken care of. It couldn’t have gone smoother I really value the way you have this set up

Newnan COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Newnan?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Newnan?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Newnan-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Newnan?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Newnan including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Newnan?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Newnan-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Newnan?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Newnan are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Newnan?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Newnan?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
