Everyone was wonderful from front desk, to X-ray tech, to physician. The care was great.  The only thing I didn’t understand was why you have no durable supplies , like ask arm sling, which for the cost of the visit, should have been included.  I would highly recommends Urgi Care to my family and friends.

About Hepatitis test

Who should get tested for hepatitis?

Anyone who has been exposed to the virus, either through sexual contact, sharing needles, or from an infected mother to her newborn during childbirth, should get tested for hepatitis. It is also recommended for individuals who have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with hepatitis. According to the CDC, people born between 1945 and 1965, commonly known as baby boomers, are five times more likely to have hepatitis C and should get tested.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for hepatitis is crucial as it allows for early detection and treatment, reducing the risk of severe liver damage, including cirrhosis and liver cancer. The CDC reports that many people with hepatitis do not know they are infected, leading to unintentional transmission to others and delayed treatment.

Prevalence of hepatitis in St. John

While specific data for St. John is not readily available, Lake County, where St. John is located, has seen a steady increase in hepatitis cases over the years, mirroring the national trend. This rise could be attributed to various factors, including increased testing and awareness, and the opioid crisis, which has led to an increase in needle sharing.

Risk factors related to hepatitis in St. John

Risk factors for hepatitis in St. John are similar to those in other parts of the country. They include unprotected sex, sharing needles, and having a mother who is infected with hepatitis. Other risk factors include being born between 1945 and 1965, having a clotting factor disorder, or being on long-term hemodialysis.

Other STDs in St. John

In addition to hepatitis, other STDs such as gonorrhea, chlamydia, HIV, and syphilis are also present in St. John and the surrounding areas. As with hepatitis, testing is crucial for early detection and treatment of these STDs. Testing locations such as Midwest Express Clinic and Family Urgent Care offer testing for these STDs as well.
