Brita and Caroline the PA were amazing! They were very efficient. I love how clean the facility was. I would recommend these two ladies and your urgent care to anyone. I work in the medical field and I was very impressed. The only thing I would recommend would be wheel chair accessible doors. There should be a push button for entrance and exit. Overall I give this place a 10 out of 10

Every thing was so so simple.. I got Online. Picked my time to come in. Showed up. Got in within arrival a few minutes later. They for a Saturday on a holiday (Thanksgiving) weekend were not busy at all. I came in at 3:41 pm was out by 4:00ish diagnosed and with prescription in hand. Yes , no having to then leave and use another place for pharmacy. Dr. Kayla was fantastic. Listening to everything I had to say. I would highly recommend her or any of the other providers at this location. Then Ann in the pharmacy was just as kind and took care of us promptly too. So I would recommend stopping in here anytime you have a matter that needs attention during the hours they're open and you can't get in to your own dr. Thanks everyone I see you again next time. Keep up the amazing job over there at Get Well Urgent in Madison Heights.

Overview of STD Testing in Birmingham

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs. This includes individuals who are in monogamous relationships, as STDs can remain dormant for years before showing symptoms. Those who have multiple sexual partners, engage in unprotected sex, or share needles for drug use are at a higher risk and should get tested regularly. According to the CDC, sexually active women under 25, men who have sex with men, and individuals with HIV should get tested at least once a year.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for both individual and public health. Early detection can prevent serious health complications like infertility, cancer, and organ damage. It also helps stop the spread of these diseases, as many people with STDs don't show symptoms and can unknowingly pass them to others. Regular testing is a responsible and proactive approach to maintaining your sexual health and that of your partners.

Primary care providers

Your primary care provider can also test for STDs. They are a good option if you have a strong relationship with your doctor and feel comfortable discussing your sexual health with them.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those without insurance or who are unable to afford testing, free STD testing is available at community health centers. While Birmingham does not have a community health center, nearby cities like Southfield and Madison Heights have facilities like 1st Choice Urgent Care and Medpro Urgent Care that offer testing services.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits provide a private and convenient option. These kits can be ordered online, and you send a sample back to a lab for testing. Results are usually available online within a few days.

Prevalence of STDs in Birmingham

Birmingham, located in Oakland County, has seen a rise in STD rates in recent years, mirroring national trends. According to the CDC, the most common STDs in the area are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis. While these rates are lower than in some nearby counties like Chautauqua and Beaver, they are higher than others, such as Lawrence and Butler.

Risk factors related to STDs in Birmingham

Several factors contribute to the prevalence of STDs in Birmingham. These include a lack of sexual education, decreased condom use, and increased use of dating apps, which can lead to more casual and anonymous sexual encounters. Additionally, stigma around STD testing can prevent people from getting tested and treated. It's important for residents to be aware of these risk factors and take proactive steps to protect their sexual health.
