Woke up with symptoms of Strep Throat, something I’ve suffered from a lot ever since I was a kid. Scheduling was easy. Wait time was practically non-existent. Nurse was very nice and patient as I struggled to speak with a swollen throat. Doctor was with me quickly. Very friendly and nice. Nurse did my swab for quick testing. My test came back negative, but they prescribed me medications anyways. I asked if they could run a lab on my swab, because my swab test for Strep has always come back negative ever since I was a child. Doctor refused to do so and said they were treating it like Tonsillitis instead. Sent me on my way without asking if I needed a doctor’s note; had to reenter the building to get my doctor’s note written for my two jobs. Doctor prescribed antibiotics, but also prescribed me cough drops for throat pain. Cough drops aren’t meant for throat pain, and I’m not coughing.

I was able to choose a Labcorp location and schedule an appointment. Check in was easy, and I only needed to provide my name and DOB. They were able to locate my order in their system. They were already aware that my labs were paid for prior to the appointment. I had my labs done on a Wednesday, and I received my results by Saturday. Great experience.

Overview of STD Testing in Tipp City

Who should get tested for STDs?

Anyone who is sexually active should consider getting tested for STDs. This includes individuals who are in monogamous relationships, as well as those who have multiple sexual partners. It's especially important for those who have unprotected sex, or those who share needles for drug use, to get tested regularly. According to the CDC, it's recommended that all adults and adolescents from ages 13 to 64 get tested for HIV at least once. Women under 25 who are sexually active should get tested annually for gonorrhea and chlamydia, as should older women with risk factors such as new or multiple sex partners.

Importance of getting tested

Getting tested for STDs is crucial for several reasons. First, many STDs often have no symptoms, so you could be infected and not know it. If left untreated, STDs can lead to serious health complications, including infertility, cancer, and organ damage. Secondly, knowing your status can help protect your sexual partners from becoming infected. Lastly, early detection and treatment can often cure or manage STDs effectively.

Free STD testing and community health centers

For those on a budget, free STD testing may be available at local community health centers. These centers often provide services on a sliding fee scale based on income. However, it's important to note that these centers may have longer wait times and limited availability.

At-home testing

At-home STD testing kits are becoming increasingly popular. These kits allow you to collect a sample at home and send it to a lab for testing. Results are usually available online within a few days. While convenient, it's important to ensure the test is from a reputable company.
