I made an appointment for a UTI. Checking in was quick. Nichole, who was very pleasant,  took my vitals and list of meds.  Dr Schreiber was terrific. She listened to my concerns and symptoms and prescribed an antibiotic that correlated with the urine sample. I wish Dr Schreiber was a full time doctor at this office as I would want her to be my internist.

Had a very itchy response on my arm to a shingrix vaccine. Waited in a spotless room for a short period of time for a friendly & professional tech & NP. I was given a treatment which is helping to resolve the issue. I would definitely go back to your facility. My only complaint is the doors are not automatic & are heavy & cumbersome to hold while pushing my mother in her wheelchair.

I was very put off by the fact you have to leave a credit card on file! I am very uncomfortable with doing that in this day and age! Receptionist honestly had no warmth… behind the desk personality and seemed robotic! NO other urgent care DEMANDS this… Back office was Amazing… X-ray tech awesome.. Alison PA(?) or dr. Was fantastic! Care great! On a side note I had trouble with the billing dept. when this was under another name! Not sure if the same person heads this up now but she was nasty! I will probably go to City Med as they have a much better system up front!

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

The staff & the service were terrific. The wait was a problem. In fact, I had registered fir Covid test the day before, waited over an hour, and had to leave to drive my husband to his doctor's appointment.

- Verified patient on 3/26

I was very happy with my visit. I came for a Covid test and when I explained my symptoms a very nice young physician assistant actually checked my stomach because I was complaining about it and seemed very thorough and explained to me what the possibilities could be if not Covid related and told me to try a probiotic and if that doesn’t help go for further tests; but all seemed ok so far. It put my mind at ease a bit. I wish all doctors had such bedside manners. She had never seen me and was kind and thorough. Thanks for a great experience in this scary and trying time.

- Verified patient on 1/18

Unfortunately needed to get a COVID test done. The lady at the front desk was wonderful and helpful getting us checked in pretty quickly. We were taken to a room where the nurse practitioner came in to do our tests. She was very friendly and nice and helped relax some of the nerves from being tested. Even the doctor that came in next was very warm and pleasant. It was quick and friendly service and while I hope I don’t need to go back any time soon they will now be where I go.

- Verified patient on 1/8

The Staff was amazing today from performing my RAPID-Covid test, to my examination for my upper respiratory infection and chest x-rays. Got me through the whole process with awesome medical procedures, in a very safe, A+ sanitized rooms and equipment, while still managing to be friendly and even offering humor to help me feel completely cared for. A+++ 10 STARS for the dedicated covid testing office, and medical clinic alike.

- Verified patient on 2/9

Had an appt for a rapid covid test and still waited an hr. I understand it’s a difficult time Then I was asked the same questions that I answered on the online sign in. Was a cumbersome event. Needs to be streamlined

- Verified patient on 11/16

The wait was a bit long for an urgent care center the staff was friendly and the dr or practitioner who saw me was very nice It was a little disturbing to c the staff walking from the room to the lab with open nasal swabs (not in media or bags) n I’m sure they were Covid tests

- Verified patient on 10/20

Online booking process was easy. Got a text with a link to click in order to sign in when I got there and then another when it was time to go in. I was the only patient in there with two nurses who were both very friendly and polite. They I was getting a covid test so they asked about my exposure/symptoms and gave me tips in case it were to be positive. Overall fast and easy, every step of the way and finished with helpful staff.

- Verified patient on 1/23

Went in with my daughter and granddaughter, we were all nervous to get our covid tests. We were treated so nicely from the moment they said please sign in. Honestly want to thank them all for making a nerve racking experience into a more relaxed experience. We went 12-10-*** so the employees who were working that day are all deserving praise for not only making us feel relaxed, but for all that they are doing in this time of uncertainty.

- Verified patient on 12/11

In these times, I expected to wait at least an hour, especially since I was a walk in. The front staff and the staff taking my vitals couldn't have been nicer. I understand you are very busy but I did expect to spend more than 2 or 3 minutes with your nurse practitioner. She informed me that she would be doing a covid test and that if it was positive I would have to quarantine for 2 weeks. She listened to my lungs and said she would be calling a prescription into my pharmacy. She asked if I was vaccinated and when I said yes she said "Never mind. I" m not going to do a covid test". She said it would be awhile before she could call in the prescription because she had other patients to see....and she was gone. Never told me what she suspected was the problem. Never asked if I had any questions. At 4:30, I called the office and left a message asking about the prescription. It is now after 6pm and still no call from CVS that a prescription is ready for me. If she had given me 30 seconds more of her time, she could have ordered the prescription. I would have been able to start the medication hours ago and she would have one less thing to deal with in her obviously busy schedule.

I went here twice. I had Salina both times she talked me through this covid test. She made my visit very pleasant , even though she made me cry. Just kidding But the covid test did make my eyes water. Thank y’all for been here for everyone.

- Verified patient on 11/13

Right from the first start of my visit the receptionist displayed a friendly manner in a very professional way. I was still filling out my forms when I was called to a room to get my covid test. The nurse who administered the test acted in a very professional manner. She made a stressful situation a lot easier to handle.

- Verified patient on 1/8

I can’t see my doctor because of the new normal. I’ve taken steroids and the zpak twice. Had 4 Covid tests. Negative. The ears are my trigger for sickness. Anyway you guys were n are great. Great professionalism. Thanks oodles

I was treated very well. They listened to my issues and I was happy with my care I had a COVID test and I was called with results In the time frame they told me. Very professional Thank you. They took my insurance and co insurance

I was slightly upset that there was no one at the Covid testing sight at Ocean County College. I went there just after *** hours. I then proceeded to the Immediate Care location on Rt 37 in Toms River. The staff there were also shocked that the College sight had no one there. The staff at Rt.37 were very professional and helpful. While I was waiting another gentlemen came in who had also gone to the College sight and stated that there was no one there.

- Verified patient on 5/6

I could not be happier with my experience at the Toms River Immediate Care Facility. Both my initial COVID test visit as well as my COVID retest visit were equal in compassion, care and professionalism. From the front desk to the medical team. In these crazy COVID times there is no doubt our medical staff should be exhausted and overwhelmed, but you would never know that by this team. Thank you for all you are doing to serve the community and please stay safe! A special thank you to both Rose and Dan for their high quality professionalism and compassion! Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy New Year!

- Verified patient on 12/6

Everything about my visit was good. However, I never received the results of my covid test via email as I was told I would within 48 hrs. I tried calling Immediate Care and it kept going to voicemail over and over for hours. I had no idea what to do. Finally, I just drove to Immediate Care where they printed out my results for me. That part of my service was very bad.

- Verified patient on 8/13

Went to walk in after seeing my primary for a rapid Covid test since I had some URI infection symptoms. Staff and medical assistant were great they took their time and listened to me. Physician was just ok examined and out in 4.5 minutes maybe. Every one else was excellent.

- Verified patient on 10/22

Very pleasant, from the girls up front, to getting my Covid test.. they let me know that the time to come back for the test, and they all worked well together to help and care for the clients.

- Verified patient on 4/5

Needed yo get covid test. line was long but moved fairly well. It was very convenient to stay in my car and have the staff come to the car with the information to do test and complete paperwork. Staff st the site were very polite. I immediate care before.

- Verified patient on 12/31

I was told by one staff member wait could be hour half after appointment but then other staff member checked us in and I explained the need for covid test that night and other staff got us right in. They were wonderful

Toms River COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Toms River?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Toms River?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Toms River-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Toms River?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Toms River including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Toms River?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Toms River-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Toms River?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Toms River are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Toms River?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Toms River?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
