This clinic has shorter than average waiting periods

Short Wait Time

I recently moved to Wappingers and have been sick twice. Both of my visits to the HealthQuest Urgent Care were excellent. The receptionist was friendly and the exam was prompt and thorough. The care was much better than other urgent cares I have visited. Thank you!

Friendly Staff

I went to get a covid test today. I was warmly greeted by receptionist who gave me instructions and I was called in and greeted by technician who was very nice and thorough. I waited for results and then seen by a physician. He checked my glands and throat. He was very nice and gave me some suggestions to help my sore throat. In all it was a very comforting experience and I would highly recommend the staff at 100 Mill Plain Rd. Thank you all! Ann Peters

I came in one day without an appoint and waited two hours as a walk-in before I had to leave without being tested. I made an appointment through Labcorp for the next day, showed up on time, got tested easily and was on my way in 15-20 minutes. Staff is friendly and helpful.

Truly unparalleled service at AFC Urgent Care Yorktown! I sliced my finger open when a pint glass fell during dinner on a Sunday night. I had to catch a plane the next day back to LA from visiting my family over the holidays. If it has not been for Dr. Gupta I would have spent hours in the ER waiting for someone to stitch my finger. Instead, I was in and out in less than one hour. Thank you so much and happy new year!

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I called several times and was on at least a 15-20 minute hold each time. Extremely frustrating. The first time someone picked up and immediately hung up before saying anything. The NP and people who did the Covid test were great.

- Verified patient on 10/24

The wait time was a bit long but not unexpected. The practitioner was friendly, helpful and did a good job. I was especially grateful that he added a rapid strep test along with the Covid test. Saved me another trip to the doctor. Overall good experience.

Very professional. While wait time for the virtual visit was fine (booked last night for this morning) would have been better to be able to have the actual COVID test happen sooner than Saturday with PCR results “2-8 days later” as doctor said. You guys are providing a valuable service and I know capacity is an issue especially at holiday but would be much better to have testing slot available sooner than two or three days after the virtual visit. Local pharmacies offer walk-in rapid test so at a minimum you should not make me wait until Saturday after booking the appointment Wednesday night. Otherwise great.

This was a life saver as I needed to set up a rapid covid test for work. The website was easy to navigate , I was able to get an appointment very quickly and get testing immediately after my virtual visit. The dr and nurse were very friendly. I would highly recommend.

- Verified patient on 9/13

Virtual appointment for a Covid test (pre-test requirement) was just over 24 hours but everything else was great. Once on the appointment, very simple, all my questions were answered and appointment for testing scheduled for the next business day. Thanks

- Verified patient on 7/18

I had an excellent experience. Staff was very nice organized and really had the Covid Testing completely fast and safe. I have been going to Pulse for years now and always get the best treatment. The Doctors and Staff are excellent

Virtual visit to determine if Covid testing is appropriate. Preliminary to the visit was a phone call from Laura - very professional and friendly, obtained the appropriate history. The Practitioner Veronica was very knowledgeable and friendly - did ask for any pertinent history, etc. She did order the testing and I had it at the Poughkeepsie office drive- in - very efficient and friendly personnel! Overall experience very positive. Thank you!

Snafu with the waiting. Partially our fault. Doctor spoke to me for about a minute because she knew this was a serious situation. She was right. Multiple pulmonary embolisms. Thank you. By the way, I paid for a COVID test, but did not get a test because I went straight to the emergency room at the doctor’s recommendation. We expect to request a refund of that charge.

I had a rapid COVID test which overall was a good experience. What was a little puzzling to me was the difference between my nephew’s experience and mine. We both had our video chat on Sunday 8/23, my nephew was given the option to get tested that day (Sunday) which he did at the Poughkeepsie location. I was told testing was only M-F 9-3, so I got tested Monday ( I would have rather tested on Sunday and been able to go to work Monday like my nephew did). When I called back on Sunday to try to get tested that day, the two different people I talked to told me testing wasn’t available on Sunday even tho my nephew was just tested? On Sunday my nephew was given a complete print out of the test results. On Monday I was just given a copy of the order with “negative” hand written, which my employer would not accept, when I called back Monday to try to get the printed report, I was told it was not in the computer yet and wouldn’t be until later that night? The person I talked to was very helpful and called me back at 8pm to tell me it had just been faxed to my employer. My experience was good, but wondering why my nephew’s experience was so much more efficient?

I had a long wait for a virtual visit, but that’s understandable these days. The clinician was friendly & professional. The on-site clinic staff member who performed my rapid Covid test an hour later was equally professional and had a great car-side manner.

- Verified patient on 10/2

Once you have your virtual visit. The wait time for the virtual visit is almost always super long and not at the scheduled time (at least not the last few times I’ve done it). The rest is easy. The staff is friendly. I love the drive by covid test option.

- Verified patient on 8/4

The only thing I didn’t like was that the person who was administering the COVID tests where I went a couple of weeks ago came too close to the patients in the car. It seemed unprofessional and was uncomfortable.

- Verified patient on 10/16

It took over an hour wait for the video conference. At the testing site, the nurse was very nice and friendly. She made me feel comfortable getting the Covid test done for the first time. I was nervous but her friendliness made me feel comfortable.

I’ve been to PMD in Wappingers Falls many times with my family for multiple reason. Today I came for a Covid test - and as always - staff was super friendly and courteous and never made me feel like “oh - here’s another Covid tester”. They genuinely exude concern and compassion even in these chaotic times. Everything was organized and seem less from the televisit to getting the results. Thank you!

- Verified patient on 9/25

The NP on duty did not seem interested in my problem. I had a severe cough, fever, shortness of breath and wheezing. She ordered an antibiotic. I had to ask her for an inhaler , I thought she should have offered it as a standard for someone who obviously in distress. Everyone else was friendly and took a real interest in my health especially the tech. Who did my covid test

- Verified patient on 6/17

I pulled in for a covid test. The nurse called me up the ramp quickly to administer the test and sent me on my way. I received a phone call in approximately a half hour with the rapid result

- Verified patient on 9/5

Second time taking the Covid test for me and my husband. The first time was a bit faster as far as the wait time was concerned but due to a slight uptick in recent Covid infections it’s understandable. We are grateful for this opportunity to get tested so fast. It allowed us a visit with our grandchildren. Thank you staff at Pulse-MD!

- Verified patient on 10/22

We scheduled a televisit 9am for a prom Covid test, waited 45minutes and then we finally got through to someone to ask why we weren’t getting our Tele visit appointment. We were put on some other schedule that no one saw.

- Verified patient on 5/31

For covid test: waited for over 50 minutes during first video visit attempt. Got disconnected lost connection. Attempted three more times. Received a phone call telling me to call back and that was a total fail over 15 to 20 attempts to call back hitting voicemail every time. Finally got help from the testers and got a phone call to check on my medical history. Not a good experience overall.

I went for rapid Covid test this morning . The 2 girls were PHENOMENAL!!!!! They could not have been more friendlier or made the process go any smoother . My girl explained the process in detail and was so caring and gentle , really put me at ease . I would recommend Poughkeepsie Pulse MD to everyone !!!

Wappingers Falls COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Wappingers Falls?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Wappingers Falls?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Wappingers Falls-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Wappingers Falls?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Wappingers Falls including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Wappingers Falls?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Wappingers Falls-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Wappingers Falls?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Wappingers Falls are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Wappingers Falls?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Wappingers Falls?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
