Will not write about my experience other than the fact that the receptionist  young lady that checked me in and took my vitals was excellent. Do not want to share what followed.

I have been to this facility a few times when I have had to take my child in times when her Pediatrician was away. They have taken care of her and even given me a referral so that I may take her to a specialist to further evaluate her. It's not very far from my home at all. I'm glad they are also available after my child gets out of school, since her pediatrican's last appt. is at 3:30, I have time to go to Metro-UrgiCare and feel reassured.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

My husband and I went for Covid test. I did my appointment online which was very easy. I called for my husbands appointment and the girl was very pleasant. She took all his information. When we had test done, the girl who took it was also very pleasant

Great option for a covid test.

I had an urgent care issue and I attended Westmed on Westchester Ave. I had an amazing experience there from the receptionist right through to the doctors. Nurse Susan was so nice and professional, the big baby that I am, I was so scared to take my fifth Covid test! She did a swab that was so quick and painless, I didn't have time to cry!! NP Louise was very cordial & took time out to listen to my woes. Dr. Esteban is a fine clinician with extraordinary knowledge ordering a CT and all the necessary tests that would be done at an ER Hospital. I felt in very good hands here, the facility is very clean and they take all the necessary precautions with Covid. I highly recommend this facility and would definitely return for any medical emergency.

I was there for a Covid test. My questions were answered to my satisfaction. I’m disappointed that the wait time for results is 7 to 10 days but I don’t blame WestMed for that.

- Verified patient on 7/19

Anthony Viceroy will be contacted Horrible disgraceful experience with a Covid test result invalid because the idiot who took my information screwed up the info. Wrong last name. Wrong address. As a result I go on unpaid administrative leave due to this idiot’ s incompetence. He needs to be given a dustpan and broom. Nina Pineda channel 7 is being contacted

- Verified patient on 10/7

The first nurse was very nice and Didi everything and asked all the questions and made notes in the computer. The nurse practitioner that saw me was terrible. Waited for her for 15-20 minutes after my initial screening with the first nurse and she didn't even bother to review notes in the time and very unsympathetic. People only go see doctors when they are sick or worried and compassion/empathy is a must. Also the first nurse swabbed me for strep since I told her I have a scratchy throat and she left the swab on the counter and she didn't even grab the covid test or the swab until she walked out and I had to call her back about my strep throat results. Awful. Also they least they can do is put the correct information on the charts. I'm a grown man, and it "Ms." Anish Soman for the name. Just seems they didn't have any time for anything and was rushing. Hire more staffers or decline appointments if you don't have the proper staff or manpower, just like any business.

During this COVID time. The ladies at the desk was patient, nice, and very knowledgeable. The nurse who did my COVID test was more than patient. I was very comfortable with her swabbing my nose.

- Verified patient on 1/3

I had a long wait even with appointment but I was glad I had a chest X-ray and results in a timely way and got COVID tested as well. Staff was gracious and professional- doctors and support staff as well.

- Verified patient on 11/21

did not go inside - it was a covid test

- Verified patient on 1/26

I was impressed with the services the doctor called and asked if I had any questions the nurse who performed the exams was so nice! I couldn’t believe how fast and efficient the services were and I would highly recommend this place for covid testing. No wait on a Tuesday 10am! I’ve had seven covid tests so far and this one was the best experience by far! I did rapid and OCR exams

- Verified patient on 3/23

I was not happy that the nurse practitioner told me that she cannot put the results on the patient portal because she will be working from home so I will have to call urgent care to get my results – this does not seem a professional way to handle Covid testing at all

- Verified patient on 12/30

The security and desk rep were extremely rude when I walked in. The security person giving the masks though pretty much ruined the whole experience. Extremely poor attitude and rude. The nurse who did my COVID test was very sweet. When I left, the desk rep mentioned before seemed to be in a better mood. WestMed is really going downhill. Convenient, but treats everyone like a number. It's getting worse with time. I booked through WestMed website because the Solv app was useless & would not let me book at the location I was seeking.

- Verified patient on 10/26

Getting a Covid test wait time was not that bad especially due to the Covid rises Staff did a good job

Dr. Baggley and nurse Monique were wonderful! We came for covid testing—fast efficient care! Recommend them highly!

- Verified patient on 6/23

I had an appointment at urgent care for an event required covid test. I wasn’t brought into a room until 30 min after my scheduled appointment time. I was tested immediately but then waited an additional 20 minutes to see a doctor, which took another 10 minutes. An hour after my scheduled appointment I finally was discharged. The test I was there for took less than 5 minutes and the whole ordeal took over an hour. I very one was very nice but the time it took was ridiculous. I won’t recommend westmed urgent care for any similar service in the future.

- Verified patient on 4/14

I just went in for a Covid test and everyone was so friendly. The nurse and doctor was Amazing...I would definitely recommend Westmed Urgent Care to all my family and friends.

- Verified patient on 3/3

James the nurse practitioner and his nurse were wonderful. Every professional and caring. The only reason wait time got 2 stars was I waited for over an hour to get a chest X-ray. I understand being very cautious when there is a patient who presents some Covid symptoms and the need to take extra measures but was completely disappointed with this wait from radiology and as such I left without getting the X-ray. While I will wait for the results of the Covid test and strep just wonder why WestMed doesn’t utilize rapid Covid tests also

- Verified patient on 10/16

The wait was longer because of New protocol due to Covid and Covid testing but overall it was handled very nicely very clean very pleasant the nurse and doctor very helpful giving me advice for my problem not due to any Covid.Very impressed and thankful for them helping me!

I had an appointment scheduled for an urgent care visit. Upon arrival, they notified me my appointment was not in the system even though I shared the email confirmation and they were running 30 minutes behind schedule and would call when they were ready. After 30 minutes of waiting, I re-entered the urgent care where I sat for another 30 minutes with my feverish child. After finally being called in and being seen by the doctor, we had to wait another 10 minutes to get a note for the school. The doctor had her child in the office and was acting with no sense of urgency which I found that to be very inconsiderate seeing that my child had a fever and I had already been waiting over an hour. 2 days later I called to inquiry about Covid test result and they released the verbal result and advised I could pick up a copy of the result in the office and was assured it would be uploaded to the portal within that day for my daughters return to school. 2 days passed and the results are still not uploaded which forced me to go to the urgent care to pick up the hard copy results. Very inconvenient and inconsiderate.

- Verified patient on 10/27

I booked online for just a COVID test but when I arrived I asked if I could be checked by a doctor. Without skipping a beat I was seen , examined and given a COVID test. Everyone was very kind and helpful

White Plains COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in White Plains?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in White Plains?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your White Plains-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in White Plains?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near White Plains including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in White Plains?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many White Plains-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in White Plains?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in White Plains are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 White Plains?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in White Plains?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
