Booked an appointment for 8:20 and fell asleep. Got there 10 minutes late and they were so relaxed about it. I didn’t have to wait long and was out of there in 30 minutes. The whole staff I interacted with was wonderful.

Scheduling was very easy. Staff was friendly. The provider was excellent, great bedside manner and included me in the plan of care. She took her time and didn’t rush through the appointment despite a busy clinic. My only criticism was the wait time. We had a 1:20 appointment and waited in the waiting room for over an hour past our appointment time before being brought back for our visit. We then waited in the room for another 20 minutes before the provider came in. I could understand waiting if I was a walk in however we had an appointment. It seems the appointment times should be longer or a second provider should be assigned to help manage the patient load.

The front desk gentleman was very nice and professional, took my blood pressure & temperature. The nurse who came into patient room told me I should have put my mask on when I had been told I was going to be getting swabbed next - I realize I was contagious but I wasn’t leaving the room and I knew I was getting swabbed - I wasn’t sure it it was going to be my nose or mouth.  Her manner & tone was not friendly.  The PA was great, very nice bedside manner, helpful and answered questions.  I had thought the clinic did PCR tests as they had done in the past but learned that had stopped some time ago. I wanted to have a PCR test done as well but was not able to.

We love NH, we have been seeking care here for 6 years for both our kids. They always get us in quickly and the providers all show compassion and care and solutions for their ailments. Dr. Koehler helped my daughter with a broken arm and several asthma attacks and my son with conjunctivitis and asthma and common illnesses

This was the 3rd time we have visited your office. The staff and Dr. Kimberly are amazing. Very caring and informative. They all focus on my son and ensure that myself and wife are ok with the treatment. Plus they take to time to follow up with us to see how our son is feeling and doing. Not many places will do that. I will highly recommend your office.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I went for a COVID test and they had me see the doctor. They could tell I was ill. Turns out that it was bronchitis and I was given meds and well now. They were great there.

- Verified patient on 12/27

We came for a Covid test and I first called and the staff was friendly and informative. Then made an online appointment and was easily taken through the online procedure. Afterwards I was kept informed through text alerts and very little (5 minutes) wait time. Just waiting on results. Very pleased with this company

- Verified patient on 8/20

Amazing experience! I had set appt time for covid test. Only 1 patient allowed in and saw them cleaning door handles etc before I entered. I felt safe and everything handled professionally. Dr Argawald is always wonderful doctor and thank you PrimaCare for being there for my care in these uncertain times.

- Verified patient on 9/17

During an extremely high demand time of COVID testing, the system of online appointments was very convenient. The app worked easily to upload my info. The staff was also very kind, courteous, and friendly. Thanks for a pleasant and easy experience.

- Verified patient on 1/4

The process for obtaining a COVID test was organized and professional. We were kept apprised of our place in the queue and it all went very smoothly.

- Verified patient on 8/28

I did roadside/mobile Covid test, it was fast and efficient. I have the test and the result within 10 minutes. The staff was friendly and professional.

- Verified patient on 12/24

Due to the high volume of Covid testing the wait was long but understandable under the circumstances. Staff was very apologetic, kind and doing the best they can.

- Verified patient on 12/30

I had an appointment for a Covid test. I had to wait 1.5 hours just to be taken to a room for the test. Then another 30 minutes for the results. No one apologized for the delay and how late they were. Our time is as important as their time. I would give them 0 stars on wait time if I could. The only reason I would recommend them is that they were friendly. Otherwise, no.

- Verified patient on 10/21

Tester was patient and explained the different testing methods, which was interesting to me because I had to perform covid tests on my parents but was taught a different method. I liked that his method only involved one nostril, although the swab had to be in there longer.

- Verified patient on 9/18

Went in tonight for a covid test, the staff here are the sweetest individuals ive ever seen at a doctors office. Its soooo clean and nice on the inside. Thank you again to Ms. Wanda for helping me tonight, your a blessing!

- Verified patient on 12/24

Our family went there to get covid tested due to a family member testing positive. The staff were amazing and super friendly too. Would highly recommend if you are in need of any health related issues!

- Verified patient on 8/8

Went for a rapid Covid test. I have no symptoms but was exposed and I wanted to make sure I’m not a the ‘asymptomatic spreader’ around my family. I said rapid test when I walked in! I get the test wait an hour! Then call them back! They told me ‘oh we don’t have any rapid test it will take 3-5 days! I am Super mad that they didn’t tell me when I was getting the test! Tsk about BS

- Verified patient on 11/12

All I can say is wow. I had been driving around all of DFW to get a rapid test to be able to return to work. I logged onto Solv Healthcare and they had an opening in 15 min. Completely covered by insurance. Took about 20 minutes all together. The staff was an absolute delight. I will probably only go there for covid testing from now on. Thank you all so much!

- Verified patient on 8/28

NO DRIVE THROUGH TESTING!!! Do not be misled with “No appointment required” for COVID tests. We drove by several miles for drive through COVID 19 as indicated in their website and google. However, when we got there, we were told that they would not be providing drive through testing and we needed to wait for 2 hours or so for our turn to get the tests. We are a family of four and you know that how challenging it would be keeping two young children entertained and (safe) inside of the waiting room. We decided to stay in our car until our turn. Not to mention that it took 3 hours to get called and tested!! Other services were good.

- Verified patient on 12/16

Pretty great! I would have liked if the doctor had taken a bit more time to explain to me what kind of COVID test I was getting. I was confused that it was a throat swab and the website touted a 15 minute to get results test, which is why I chose this location over my primary doctor. I thought that was what I was getting but instead I’ve been waiting anxiously for my results.

- Verified patient on 6/23

I had to do a walk-in since all appointment slots had been taken up by the surge of COVID testing. I pretty much had to wait the entire day until I could be seen. I could check where I was in line virtual with the Solv app. I was able to wait at home and they text me when there were only a few patients ahead of me. The staff were courteous and pleasant to deal with. They even helped me figure out my insurance issue. The PA and nurse who attended me were great and explained what was going on with me and what steps to take in order eliviate the prognosis.

- Verified patient on 1/2

It was great!! Evelyne was great!! COVID test was quick and easy, make sure to make an appointment beforehand if you want a rapid test!:)

- Verified patient on 12/27

The nurse practitioner did my Covid test was great. The front desk person is not very friendly. There was no hand sanitizer or tissues around. Definitely need to have Hanson a Tyser especially.

- Verified patient on 1/10

A little bit of a wait time for covid tests, but the woman that gave me my test was amazing! And they claim to give results within the day if you take your test early enough.

- Verified patient on 9/2

When we arrived we called them and they sent someone down to do the Covid test. We were surprised that it was a saliva test. The staff was very efficient. We received our results in a couple of hours. Highly recommend this facility and staff.

Plano COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Plano?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Plano?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Plano-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Plano?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Plano including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Plano?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Plano-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Plano?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Plano are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Plano?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Plano?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
