Accidentally dropped a grill cleaner with a knife like edge. It hit the top of my left foot and made a very deep cut. The blood was gushing out and no amount of pressure could stop it. I went Priority Urgent Care East Haven and was immediately taken care of. They cleaned the wound and gave me stitches. They were very kind and incredibly helpful. They also told me how to care for it. I need to return in 10 days to have the stitches removed and I am looking forward to seeing the staff again.

I booked my appmt. Online for 5 pm.  Checked in early no problem. People kept walking & the little assistant kept bringing more people in before me. Finally the APRN noticed this happening & had to straighten problem out & I got in at 7 pm & spent the next 45 minutes being talked to & examine & going over my problem.  The receptionist was not aware of appmts taking precedence to “walk-ins”  well handled!!!

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I had the best experience - I am still shocked! I went in expecting long lines and wait times even though I booked an appt online in advance for the rapid covid test. I was pleasantly surprised. This place is top notch. They even took me in ahead of time. A very nice person checked me in which took 1 minute as we fill out paperwork in advance online. I was immediately walked to a private room. 1 minute later the person came in to administer the test. 3 minutes after that a lovely doctor came in. She was so nice, asked me my reason for the test ( new baby in family) and even advised that both my daughter and I take multi-vitamins. I was asked to come back in an hour for the results. I went for a walk and came back and results were handed to me right away. There was ample parking though one can also park right next store at large bowling alley lot. I highly recommend this urgent care facility.

Had to wait a few hours for a test but that’s the nature of the beast to get a rapid Covid test and results 30 mins later. Staff was awesome and helpful. Would recommend but hopefully never see again :/

- Verified patient on 10/17

quick service; a little confusing because staff didn't provide much guidance when I first entered. Also one of the staff HAD NO MASK ON!!! I was horrified by this as I was there for a Covid test! Unconscionable. Doctor who did the swab was good and professional; results came quickly.

Quick and easy Covid test.

- Verified patient on 8/30

The website was not clear on which facilities is now doing the rapid COVID testing but when I got to the building, the customer service was top notch

- Verified patient on 9/10

The nurse did not change her gloves before swabbing me for covid. She wore the same gloves for me and the patient before me. I watched her swab the patient before me from the hallway. Lack of infection control at a covid test site is not acceptable. There was also no disinfection of chairs in between patients.

- Verified patient on 10/30

Amazing that this group of women were so considerate and kind even though they had hundreds of patients since they opened earlier in the day! Super polite, super caring and fit me in right before they went to lunch. Fast and easy for my covid test. Would recommend them to my family and friends

- Verified patient on 9/24

I came to DOCS for a rapid Covid test, the staff were very friendly. When I checked in and provided my cell number I was sent a link where I could follow how many people were ahead of me. This was really helpful. Results took 25 minutes. Overall really good experience.

- Verified patient on 9/30

Wait time was 2 hours for a Covid test. Website isn’t clear. Went through the time to make an online appointment to only find out it is walk-in only. Showed up at 9:08 was told the wait was an hour, was swabbed at 11:07. Not acceptable. Told to sit in seats where COVID TEST patients were waiting. Your staff sits behind plexiglass and wipes down pens, but nobody is wiping down the seats. I would not sit.

- Verified patient on 10/8

Website needs to be clearer to say walk in’s only for Covid testing. Tried first time to make appt as website states unable to then went down to site registered on tablet. Went home made appointment went back same day only to receive text 7:10pm no more testing and had to go back. In the early morning to get inline to finely get tested. The location doesn’t take appointments for Covid testing Please change website to elevate confusion at this difficult time

- Verified patient on 10/27

Wait time was only a little lengthy because i went there for covid testing. If you need to go go first thing in the morning. Other wise, once tested everything goes fairly quickly. Friendly Staff.

- Verified patient on 9/12

Disinformation regarding wait time for Covid testing. West Haven location was closed completely on Friday (mid day with a small hand written sign). Immediately after, Orange location says quote “no more appointments for today, come back at 7:30am tomorrow(Saturday), there will be two machines and two doctors” We arrive at 7:20am, only to be informed we would wait in line just to make a timed appointment for after 1pm that day. Company website provides minimal information on how rapid tests are scheduled, despite the rush and exceedingly high level of appointments.

- Verified patient on 10/26

Terrible service. I arrived as scheduled. I was told my appointment had been canceled due to double booking and I should have received a notice. I never received a notice. Now I must wait 2 more days for a COVID test. Not happy

- Verified patient on 11/20

The staff did a great job of being efficient & friendly despite the incredibly high demand of patients wanting COVID tests

- Verified patient on 10/3

Came for a covid test. Staff was out to lunch, so had to wait. Staff is very friendly and courteous.

- Verified patient on 10/18

Besides the wait and some misinformation. I think the process for COVID testing worked. Everyone who is a part of the Clinic team should know your policy on COVID test....I was originally told it’s on a walk in, first come first serve basis....only to later be told that clients should be at clinic at 06:00 am to sign in ....with a wait period...had to register online. Only 100 COVID tests would be issued on each day.....once the client’s name is signed on clipboard and the protocol is followed, everything progressed smoothly.

- Verified patient on 11/4

I was so pleased by how I was treated by the staff. They are inundated all day long with COVID testing. They went above and beyond to make sure I got serviced (even though I got there late) and were incredibly friendly. They were truly accommodating. I was clearly flustered and they were just great!!

Arrived @ 7:30 am for covid test called tel no as instructed on door. Phone rang fo 1 hr straight. This was happening to 10/ 15 other people also waiting everyone asking what the heck . Then people starting walking inside. I eventually also went inside with my phone still ringing. Gal at desk took my name & tel no & told me to continue to wait outside ( I had already been out side for hour& half. .I was starting to think I was going to leave when I got call from that point on it went well. Everyone was very professional place very clean . Gal that administered test very nice & informative. Didn't take to long to recv results. PA that gave me my results sat ,& explained everything . She wss excellent she took her time & asking if I had any questions . Thank God my test was negative. Except for the terriable time trying to register to have test everything else went well

- Verified patient on 11/18

I went last night for a covid test because I’m a teacher and was having symptoms. My GP said to go to Docs Urgent care because it was now part of their practice- Hartford Healy Care- I was told that they had filled their quota for the day for covid testing and. To come back the next morning for the test. I was feeling terrible, so I went home and got some rest. Upon returning the next morning, I signed in, went to my car like we are supposed to and waited...... 7 hours later..... I was finally called in!! No one explained that I could leave until I was texted to come in, the WAITING procedure was sorely under explained. I will never use this facility again based on my experience here. The one positive thing was the quick results for my test.... only another half an hour...

Had 10.40am appointment, didn't get out till 12.30. Waited in room for covid test for over 30 minutes...

Orange COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Orange?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Orange?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Orange-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Orange?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Orange including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Orange?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Orange-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Orange?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Orange are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Orange?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Orange?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
