Brita and Caroline the PA were amazing! They were very efficient. I love how clean the facility was. I would recommend these two ladies and your urgent care to anyone. I work in the medical field and I was very impressed. The only thing I would recommend would be wheel chair accessible doors. There should be a push button for entrance and exit. Overall I give this place a 10 out of 10

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I had a 1:50 appt for a COVID test. Had to wait over 15 minutes to just check in. Received the actual test at about 2:35. But, they had an emergency with a patient that needed to be transported to hospital, so I understand. Reception desk needs two people though.

Wanted to get a Covid Test and made an appointment for a virtual visit. Was called by the office about 14 minutes before the spot to verify information. Then logged not Solv and waited about 20 minutes in the virtual waiting room and talked with the doctor about my symptoms. Now waiting for a call to schedule the test. Short and sweet!

- Verified patient on 10/23

I came in for a COVID test when I wasn’t able to find one for a week anywhere else. I came in and only waited a few minutes. The staff member that took my test could see I was nervous since it was my first time and talked me through it. The experience was overall very nice and would recommend.

- Verified patient on 11/25

This is a covid testing site. With that being said everyone was very nice and polite. I can’t imagine how I would deal with every person coming in being a potential positive covid status and still staying calm and collected. I had no symptoms, but my family members had covid so I needed to be tested before returning the work. It was quick and easy. No wait time at all for my pre scheduled appointment. I will for sure use the same site once it’s back and running for a normal urgent care.

- Verified patient on 8/25

I had a 6:00 appointment. Logged in 15 minutes prior as required. Was not seen by 6:45. Logged off. Texted to complain only to get this message: Hi Deborah. I apologize for your wait time. We are experiencing high call volume because of Covid testing. A provider will be with you shortly. I feel this was unacceptable since my pain or anyone else’s issues are no less important. Maybe appointments should be scheduled further apart to accommodate for these instances.

- Verified patient on 10/29

I scheduled a virtual visit first to request a covid test for international travel, then secured an on-site appointment for the test. My wait for both was less than 5 minutes. I received my test results in an hour. So fast and efficient! The staff was very professional and courteous. I will definitely use them again for covid tests required for travel.

- Verified patient on 9/22

You’re the best!!! Your user-friendly and simple on-line system allowed me to upload my insurance info and ID in advance of my appointment. This set the stage for my test to be handled within 2 minutes. In addition, you will email my test results to me within the next 7 hours - which is amazing. You, by far, are the best lab I’ve been to with regards to getting a COVID test.

- Verified patient on 12/9

So far, so good. I had the appointment and the doc will arrange an appointment for me to get a covid test. If you go through this app, DO get on 10 minutes before the appointment. I had already filled out paperwork before the visit. But there was more to fill out! I like the idea of having an appointment for the COVID test. It sounds like I can get swabbed without the usual hours-long wait in a room of sick people! We'll see!

- Verified patient on 11/23

This was my first time. I didn’t know what to expect. A lot of people told me you are in and out for covid testing. I arrived at 3pm. I was called back rather quickly but their protocol for testing is alittle different you have to wait for results. I would come here again. I just don’t prefer rapid testing.

- Verified patient on 11/14

I’m so glad I went to the Beaumont ER for my covid test. Was nervous to go there! Don’t be! Wow! So clean/so safe! Was immediately taken back to nice private room (the waiting room is kept empty) where I was quickly hooked up to EKG and oximetry for the whole visit. No,I was not in distress. First the mouth swab and IV for lab work. Mouth swab neg. and was administered the nasal swab (24-48 hrs).Saw the Dr. on board; listened to lungs. Share that everything so far looks great! All standard procedure. Was experiencing shortness of breath (not at that time) with previous *** diagnosis of early stage emphysema). SOB standard reason for chest X-ray and IV prednisone (took two seconds). So thorough! Script had been sent to my pharmacy for a new albuterol inhaler (old one is MIA) and 5 days of pred. Picked up on my way home. I recommend this for anyone needing testing; the walk in clinics where you swab yourself or relying on the quick test mouth swab isn’t reliable, as told to me now by three of my Dr’s. Highly recommend

I had a virtual appointment with a doctor, who listened to my symptoms and concerns and set it up for me to have the Covid Test at Taylor Urgent Care. I received a call from Beaumont and my appointment at Taylor Urgent Care was set for 2 PM. I went in, was welcomed, taken to a room, given the test, and discharged a few minutes later. Still anxiously waiting for the results of the test at this time. I booked my appointment online.

- Verified patient on 10/25

Overall it was a good experience. Very short due to all that was needed is just setting up a scheduled time to get swabbed. Having to set up a virtual visit to book a time for a COVID test I understand is probably a way to control the chaos and flow, but I also see this as a money grab as well for the convenience fo booking a time slot vs just waiting and hoping for not a large queue as a walk in. Since it requires a virtual visit that means that more than likely this counts as an "office visit" which then means there's a copay literally just to have a doctor say, "Yep, we'll have a scheduler reach out to you". Thankfully I have insurance to help cover whatever the copay might be. I understand that this is probably bigger than a Beaumont Urgent Care concern, but I just wanted to share my view on this.

- Verified patient on 4/1

The tele med part was fabulous, all 5 star! The physical location for the swab is not nearly as timely or organized. Understaffed and inexperienced at the desk, 30 minutes after appt time and I'm still in the waiting room. I was under the impression the combo would be quick and I wouldn't have to wait with the symptomatic people like I am currently.... I am here for a travel covid test.

- Verified patient on 5/7

There was a small issue and we got disconnected, but the dr called right away. Very seamless experience for a Covid test doing the virtual visit. One suggestion, let the people know in the email that the virtual visit link won’t be useable until 15 minutes before the start time. I thought the link was broken and I was just clicking it too early.

- Verified patient on 12/15

While in the end everything worked out it was really hard navigating the Covid testing and getting everything set up from site to site and the time in the day and everything. Everyone I did talk to on the phone to get information and help was wonderful it was just navigating the site that was confusing

- Verified patient on 11/12

Clean facility, staff was friendly at both UCs that I'd gone to (I'd missed the covid tests at one, drove to another, ended up back at the original one after a virtual visit). The nurse that swabbed me was nice and didn't cram the swab through my brain :-). Overall, good experience.

- Verified patient on 4/17

This experience worked well. For COVID testing, I'm not sure this was as necessary for me as other patients. You see, I had another COVID test with you just last week. That experience was also great. If today was my first COVID test, the call would be "spot on." Regardless, today's experience was great. Thanks so much.

- Verified patient on 8/25

I came in in New Year’s Day for a rapid COVID test. I used the virtual visit option and Save My Spot before getting an appointment. The process saved both me and the staff a lot of time. This is my 4th test (I work in an assisted living facility and we are extremely careful). The staff here have always been extremely professional and friendly and they operate at a fast pace. I would highly recommend the Beaumont - Wellstreet urgent cares for any urgent medical needs!

I’ve had a very good experience so far, however, my husband had a bad experience regarding billing. He had a COVID test back in July and he is being charged for it despite having insurance and it has not been resolved. He’s been in contact with both insurance company and the billing department and still no solution.

- Verified patient on 10/22

Virtual visit was on time and the doc was awesome! She understood my concerns about wanting precautionary Covid test as I was going to be around young kids and ailing father. She answered the questions I had about masking and social distancing in the work environment. Great visit and I will use this Urgent Care for issues in the future!

Southfield COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Southfield?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Southfield?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Southfield-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Southfield?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Southfield including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Southfield?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Southfield-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Southfield?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Southfield are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Southfield?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Southfield?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
