Showed up at the Ruston urgent care location for a walk in, learned about the crazy wait time but also the app, so I installed Solv and found that the Tacoma urgent care location has appointments available to schedule that day, where Ruston only had tomorrow. So I scheduled one just 30 minutes away, rushed to the office and the app knew I was there so I checked in, talked to the receptionist, she already had my insurance and stuff from the app scanning my card👍 so she photoed my ID and told me I'd have a 45 minute wait. I was excited for this. I left and used the wait list on the app to track my position in line, and showed up, was seen pretty much right away, dental assistant was kind, put in all the info, doctor came in right away, got the antibiotics I needed immediately. Pharmacy had my prescription ready soon as I got there, within 10 minutes probably. The whole experience was pretty amazing and even though it was sudden and I was in pain, had to learn about the app and whatnot, it was so easy. Very impressed.

Woke up this after dealing with cold and being tired. I was concerned with the lack of energy. Now, visiting clinic as a walk in and being checked out. I feel I can plan my next adventure, been concerned. Being 81 is a new experience and may not get it right. Thank you for your kindness and professionalism. Happy new year!

Mary Bridge Children's Urgent Care is my favorite urgent care to go to. Convenient online scheduling, easy check-in process, fast wait times, concerns are addressed appropriately, friendly staff, and you're out in about an hour from start to finish. The only area that could be improved is if you have questions after your appointment, it's hard to get a hold of anyone, and then you don't get a call back. I highly recommend Mary Bridge Children's Urgent Care

Easy in and easy out. I just wish there was more seats to sit on. People tend to bring a plus one and I wasn’t able to sit so I stood outside in the rain until I saw a seat open.

Very easy to schedule appt for a same day. Was surprised by the fact that they are paperless and in order to view anything you have to download their app. It’s been 2 days and still no results, as for the medication you have to go on the appt and send it your self to the pharmacy otherwise you will not get it. Overall it was a good visit but it could have improved on some things for sure.

The front desk staff and nurse were super friendly and nice. The xray machine wasn't working at this facility, which they really should let the patient know before they make an appointment.. I was seen by a nurse practitioner, Kamaal I believe.  She seemed nice, however, she didn't seem too concerned and asked minimum questions. I don't feel like my concern was  fully addressed/resolved.  I should have just gone to my primary care instead of paying $100 copay only to be told, "just keep up with warm fluids and come back again if it gets worst", because it's just that easy to come back and pay another $100 copay again. I drove about 18 miles to get seen at this location because appointments at the clinic near me get booked super fast.. I mentioned that to the provider that I don't want to drive this far again just one day later..and I was told "try making an appointment a day before near you then" (because clearly, I didn't try that and chose to drive that far in snowy weather). Last time I was sick with this horrendous cough and phlegm, a provider at different location told me exactly the same that it's just a viral, only for me to end up at my primary care the next day who diagnosed me with pneumonia! I see a similar review here from another patient ending up with pneumonia because your provider here, misdiagnosed her.. I sure hope the nurse practitioner didn't miss anything.. I couldn't ask for x-ray anyway, since it wasn't working at this location. I did mention to her that last time with exact same thing, I was prescribed antibiotics and she brushed it off saying "it's just a viral".. Not sure how she decided on that when she didn't even do an xray.  I was not all satisfied with my treatment by this provider at this location. Multicare Indigo, you need to fix your mistakes and train your providers, instead of copy pasting the same response to all the low rating reviews. Looking at the reviews here, no wonder this location always has multiple appointments available as compare to other locations.

Recent COVID-19 Testing Reviews (20)

I learned I did not have strep throat. Good news!! They did a COVID test on me but I haven’t heard the results. Although I presume it’s negative since not hearing anything. I figured if I had COVID the results would already be told to me if positive so I could quarantine and not become a spreader.

This facility is near the Tacoma Mall and downtown. My son was flagged as a “close contact “ and needed a covid test. This was the closest, soonest I could find. I booked on solv but was under the impression that the test was drive up. We checked in online and waited in the car but no one came out. I went in and determined that we actually needed to go in. I filled out some paperwork and we were seen right away. Very nice front office staff and nurse! The nurse really put my son at ease! Great place under the circumstances, solv online booking could be more clear. I would go to Tran again and I would recommend.

I just wish I would get my test results back faster. I got Covid test in Saturday and I was told that most likely get results back Wednesday since it was the weekend.

I came for a Covid Test while I was waiting to be called back I was observing the front desk staff was super friendly and is doing the best they can specially with the language barrier they still managed to check in the patient’s and communicate effectively.

I went in for a Covid test after having caught a fever. The staff was quick and efficient! Anthony was really kind and funny, which helped me be less nervous. All around amazing visit.

Needed covid testing. Got me right in for test. I was a walk in. Everyone I talked too was super friendly and professional. Can’t thank them enough! 10 out of 10 in every category.

- Verified patient on 9/11

I was a little taken back that the staff who took me into my room and obtain my vital signs asked my if I had Covid test recently, of course due to by cold-like symptoms. I told her I just got Covid Swab from my work several hours ago. She said I should not be in here and should be quarantine for 14 days, because I could be infecting everyone. I told her I can leave and she said to stay. I didn’t get into the dialog, but it didn’t make sense to me that if you have been swabbed you can’t come in, but if you haven’t then you can? The ARNP did not seem to think this was so. Also I called and told the staff at the front desk before I came. Even though I was Covid Swab I had not seen a provider. So it just didn’t make sense? However the front desk were polite and ARNP was excellent!

Made an appointment for a covid test. From the front door staff to the staff taking care of me in the back, I had excellent service. The nurse practitioner was extremely professional and full of valuable information. I will definitely consider this place for future medical needs. Big thanks to all the wonderful staff at Indigo during this trying time.

I had to be a walk in as no reserved spots . I needed covid testing. They told me about 45 min to wait for a room but it was ready in less time which was good . I met with nurse and she said it would be about 15-20 minutes for provider . It turned out to be a 45 minute wait for 5 minute wait with doctor .then had to wait for swab but that was done quickly . Other than the edit time it all went very well .

Came in for a covid test after an exposure at work and needing to know by Sunday when I have a vaccine clinic to manage. They listened, got me right in, tested me then checked my symptoms which could be allergies, cold or covid. Very logical, sensible, kind snd professional staff!

Wait time was super short, staff was so kind and understanding! I had a covid test taken here and they were so patient and kind with me when I was scared of the swab in my nose.

This was my second visit within two weeks. The first one was fir a Covid test and I didn’t answer the survey because the experience was just ok. Average. Broke my toe so I had to go back this morning. Same staff and they couldn’t of been better! Helpful, friendly, empathetic and human. By that I mean they were treating me with a lot of honesty and goid humor. Nothing fake or rude. I would so go back again and will share my experience with others. I work for Olympic Sports and Spine and will share with the patients I come in contact with (accounts). They even got my husband in fir his Covid test while he waited fir me. This is a well put together team. Thank you for letting me share.

Please consider having ‘pagers’ (texting patients) so they don’t have to wait in the waiting room. I would have preferred waiting in my car, as a person came in after me for covid testing because he was exposed to covid at work. Thanks!

- Verified patient on 10/29

The MA who did my COVID test was not wearing goggles or a face shield. This is not proper PPE protocol. I also noticed that the waiting room was not being wiped down between people sitting in chairs. Otherwise, the wait time was nonexistent, and the staff was friendly.

- Verified patient on 12/22

I was there for a Covid test and the doctor still needed to see me- just to say hi and hand me a pamphlet that the nurse could have easily did.

- Verified patient on 10/9

Scheduling for the covid test did not get back to me from my virtual care visit but when I contacted the lab they gave me a number and I was scheduled and brought in same day after waiting and never being called by the virtual scheduler. The actual urgent care visit was done with kindness compassion and safely. I appreciated that!!

- Verified patient on 3/25

I was in for a COVID test. There was a long wait, but they used the SOLV app so I was able to run errands until it was my turn. Very effective and efficient.

- Verified patient on 12/24

The doctor and nurses were knowledgeable, thorough, efficient, friendly and supportive. The doctor went beyond the Covid testing to x-ray of my lungs. He explained the risk factors and what to do if symptoms worsened. My husband and I left feeling served by a very caring staff.

- Verified patient on 10/9

The training MA and the person training her were very nice, no issues with them. My issue is with Dr. Rajpreet K Tiwana. She completely ignored my concerns and didn't listen to me at all. Also the MA ordered a covid test and swabbed me for it and then the Dr cancelled it. I felt uncared for and doctors like her are the reason I never go to the doctor.

- Verified patient on 7/29

This was the fastest care to get our covid test I would recommend this place over the other 3 that I looked into. We were in and out within an hour. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Tacoma COVID Testing & Rapid Testing

Types of COVID Tests

There are two types of coronavirus tests (COVID-19 tests) available, those that can test for a current infection (viral test) and those that can test for a past infection (antibody test).

Viral COVID testing can be done in a few different ways, the most common being nose swabs, but saliva tests are becoming more popular. Some tests are processed out on-site and can provide results in as little as 30 minutes. These are called rapid COVID tests. The majority of tests, on the other hand, are collected at the clinic on-site and then submitted to off-site labs for processing. Results can take up to 2-3 days to arrive.

Antibody testing looks for a past infection and may not reveal if you have an active COVID-19 infection because antibodies can take up to three weeks to form in your body. The presence of COVID antibodies may help to prevent you from becoming infected with the same virus again; but, because the clinical understanding of COVID-19 is still developing, it's unclear how long that protection will continue.

Who should get tested for current infection

The CDC currently defines four instances where COVID testing is recommended:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 including fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, or diarrhea.
  2. If you have been in close contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19. Close contact is defined as within 6 feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. If you have been vaccinated, or tested positive in the past 3 months and not experiencing symptoms, you do not need to be tested.
  3. If you are unvaccinated and participated in high-risk activities where distancing is not an option. This could include travel, large social or mass gatherings, crowded indoor settings, etc.
  4. If you have been referred to get a COVID test by your healthcare provider or local health department.

How is testing done for COVID-19?

Most COVID tests are collected by a nasal swab. A member of the medical team puts a swab inside your nose for a few seconds on each side to collect the sample. After that, the samples are packaged according to CDC guidelines and tested on-site or transported to a facility for testing. The lab will test samples for the presence of the coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which causes COVID infection and either your care provider or the lab will notify you with the results as soon as they are available.

PCR vs Antigen Testing

Viral COVID tests are available as molecular and antigen tests. The molecular test, also known as a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test, usually delivers results within a few days since most of these tests are sent to offsite labs for analysis. The average turnaround time for PCR test results is 48 hours, but in some instances may be significantly longer due to backlogs related to insufficient lab volume and capacity. Antigen tests are also known as rapid tests and have an average turnaround time of between 15 to 30 minutes.

Both PCR and rapid COVID tests can be used to test people exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19, those who were close contacts to COVID-19, and those without COVID-19 symptoms who live or work in a high-risk setting (such as a nursing facility); or those individuals who are identified as part of outbreak detection and response. The rapid COVID test is also recommended for the screening of residents or healthcare workers at skilled nursing facilities along with a PCR confirmation, and for repeat screening for the early detection and prevention of outbreaks in congregate settings (such as schools, workplaces, and prisons).

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. To reduce the risk of facing extra costs related to COVID testing, ask your primary care doctor to recommend a free COVID test site, and confirm there are no charges or fees for the test that are not covered by your insurance plan. Additionally, avoid getting a COVID test at a hospital or free-standing emergency room, as these facilities may charge fees for COVID testing and related services.

COVID-19 Testing FAQs

  • How much does COVID testing cost in Tacoma?

In many cases, COVID testing can be free. Many state and local health departments continue to offer free testing to community residents as part of their response to the pandemic. In other cases, commercially insured patients, or those on Medicare or Medicaid, may receive testing at no out of pocket cost, or with a nominal office visit copay. For cash paying patients, or those that need rapid COVID testing which will deliver results in under an hour, COVID tests can range from $50 to $150 each. It is best to call your healthcare provider prior to getting tested to better understand the cost of the specific test you require.

  • Where can I get free COVID testing in Tacoma?

COVID testing is available for free under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which includes testing for those without health insurance. Check with your Tacoma-area health department as they are generally a good source for free COVID tests, or can at least point you in the right direction. Additionally, you can ask your primary care provider to recommend a free COVID test site.

  • Where can I get COVID testing in Tacoma?

COVID testing is available at many outlets near Tacoma including urgent care centers, retail clinics, primary care offices, health departments, and more. Different venues will have different types of tests available, many at different price points. Some testing sites are allowing walk-in patients, however, many are still requiring some degree of advance booking to control patient volume.

  • Where can I get a rapid COVID test in Tacoma?

Rapid testing—both PCR (molecular) and antigen tests—is offered through many Tacoma-area urgent care centers and physician offices, usually at an additional cost ranging from $50 up to $150 per test. Usually this will allow you to get results back in under an hour, and require advanced booking through the provider. However, if you can wait 24 hours for your results, many labs are turning around send-out lab tests in that time frame, which could save you some money.

  • How to make an appointment for COVID testing in Tacoma?

Same-day and next day appointments for COVID testing in Tacoma are bookable directly through Solv. Simply browse the list of healthcare providers conducting COVID tests above, find one with a “Book Online” button, and book a time that aligns with your schedule stating “COVID-19 Test” as your reason for visit.

  • Can I get tested for antibodies if I am sick with COVID-19 Tacoma?

An antibody test for COVID-19 might inform you if you previously had a coronavirus infection. Because it can take between 1–3 weeks after an infection for your body to develop these antibodies, an antibody test during an active infection would not be successful. To see if you are currently infected, you need a viral test.

  • Do I need a COVID test if I have been vaccinated?

Even if you have been fully vaccinated, if you have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, experts believe that you should be tested yourself, particularly if you are experiencing cold and flu symptoms commonly aligned with the coronavirus.

  • How long does COVID testing take?

Getting a COVID test is quick. Most tests are done with a nasal swab, which takes less than a minute to swab both nostrils. Depending on where you get your COVID test, this means you could be in and out of the testing site in as little as 10-15 minutes. During busy times—particularly around holidays—testing sites may be busier than usual and wait times may be longer.

  • How long does it take to get COVID test results in Tacoma?

Most labs are returning send-out molecular (PCR) COVID test results within 24-48 hours of the test. Some sites take longer, so call and ask if the reason for the test is proof for travel. Rapid COVID tests are processed on-site and are able to deliver results in under an hour, sometimes in as little as 15 min.

  • Do COVID tests detect the Delta variant and Omicron variant?

Regular COVID tests are able to detect both the Delta variant and Omicron variant in that they can determine whether or not you have the coronavirus. However, they can't tell which variation is involved. That would necessitate genomic sequencing, which is a different process from regular virus testing that not all labs can undertake. Sequencing is uncommon and can cost up to $100 per test. Since the treatment is the same for any variant, it is not clinically useful to an individual patient to know whether the infection was caused by a variant or not.
